ISRA Action Alert: Time to call your state representative on HB2414

This bill, HB 2414, is a semi-automatic and .50 cal ban, and is left over from last year's sessions of the 94th General Assembly. It was a bad bill then, and it's a bad bill now. It now stands with 6 house amendments to try to make it more palatable, and we could see more amendments on this bill.

This bill is on the calendar for a reading, and could be called as early as Thursday, 1/12/2006, so take a few minutes at your earliest opportunity to call on the phone and urge your representative to OPPOSE this bill.

I'll call Gary Hannig, but I don't suppose that has much impact. Rep. Hannig is not what you'd call a swing vote. He was the first co-sponsor to sign onto the last CCW bill.

Don, I know what you mean, my state rep is Bill Black. I just called him last week to say keep up the good work. I do this five or six times a year and he never lets me down. Jim.

Yep, Peter Roskam's my state Senator (soon to be US Congressman) and Randy Hultgren is my state rep (soon to be state Senator). I call them and thank them a couple times a year.

But, I also call/e-mail some of the other Senators and Reps (especially Pihos) and let them know my thoughts on various issues.

We might want to keep an eye on Brandon Phelps. He's a good one (reminds me of Poshard) and I think he can/could/should run for a state wide office.

All but 4 of the sponsors of this bill are Dems from Cook County. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Cook County alrady pretty dry when it comes to weapons ownership. I hesitate to call anything an assault weapon, becasue I am more likely to assault somebody with my nine iron than my M4, and at this point my pings are still legal.
