Action stuck open on Marlin model 60

I just acquired a marlin 22lr that has the action stuck open. Is this something I am overlooking or is it a gunsmith level fix?

Press the little button down by the trigger guard that locks the bolt open. I think you may have to pull the bolt back a little more first, to take some pressure off, then release it.

yeah...did that. It's open about 3/8 inch farther than my other one.....

On the model 60 there is a bolt hold open feature. Try pulling outwards on the charging handle and it may/should pull out about 1/4" and allow the bolt to ride home. It does not take a lot of force to pull the handle out far enough to disengage this feature.

If this does not do it I'm not sure just what the problem could be.
