Have you ever been forced into a situation where you actually had to use mace/pepper spray, tazer etc. on an agressor and what was the observed effect?

In the course of my job I've sprayed many people and been sprayed more than a few times myself. It is fairly effective, hurts a lot, and generally makes combative people easier to deal with. Even if it doesn't completely incapacitate someone, I'd much rather fight them while they are half blinded and coughing than when they are a hundred percent. I'd say its been about 70% effective for me, with only a few complete failures (usually against really angry mental patients).

I have been in CS gas chambers, Had cs used on us in training etc. But once. I was working an off duty armed security job about ten years ago. we we were gaurding the transit system, buses, light rail, etc. I was removing a drunk off the 66 bus in san Jose. He got a little wild. The guard with me sprayed us both. My eyes clampted shut, it burned. I was annoyed with this person. BUt it works. I own a personel taser. I keep itin the car.

Used both on the job. OC generally works but we have Tasers now (got them this year) and them things is slick. . .

I've been shot with one to carry it and have tased one subject. Seen half a dozen tased by other officers. Taser is instant and drops most of them instantly if you get the probes deployed correctly. The rather uncooperative subject I tased stated "Oh my God, Oh my God, ANYTHING" when I gave commands after depolying the taster. Go to Taser Intl's website and watch the vids. The one all the way to the bottom is a good one. Subjects generally comply. LE taser is set up differantly then the civilian ones.

OC takes time to "set in". One thing I've never liked about it is it tends to get every one else including yourself too. I've sprayed about a dozen people, only had one it didn't work on and I'm fairly sure he was half way used to it from prison time as well as being high.

OC feels like bobbing for fried chicken in a deep fat fryer.
Being Tased makes you feel like a poodle in a microwave set on "HIGH".

Mace is something differant (related to CS) and I don't think it's sold much if at all anymore.

Ive used pepper spray on the job a few times. The spray stopped the combative/ aggresive persons actions. I havent had any failures yet. just remember no matter how hot the spray is it wont stop everybody.

I've been pepper sprayed (by accident and by being in the area when someone fogged). I've been hit with stun guns during training and at a party when some twit decided it would be fun to zap the unsuspecting. In each case I got ticked off rather than falling down and writhing.

He did, and it is to my everlasting sorrow that he turned and ran faster than I could go after him. From what I could see it had a pleasing organic shape, and I'm sure there were nooks and crannies about his body that it would have fit nicely if a bit snugly. :fire:

I tried using an aged can of halt on a dog. It jammed. Carry two and replace yearly.
