Adding Flash Supressor (9/04)

How hard is it to add a flash supressor to your standard post-ban Bushmaster 16" barrel? Assuming the ban is not renewed, I'm sure there will be a big industry in retro-fitting post-ban AR15s.

Is there some barrle harmonics thing that makes simple threading and adding of a flash supressor (by a knowledgable 'smith) a problem?

Different problems here.

- Plain barrels require turning, threading, and refinishing
- Muzzle braked barrels require machining or cutting to remove the pins and possible other work depending on what's underneath.

There is NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER mechanically or accuracy wise with adding a flash suppressor and the attendant work that needs to be done. There is potential for increased accuracy depending on the crown work and also decreased because the flash suppressor tends to do that slightly. If you're adding a flash suppressor, get one that is effective like the Vortex flash suppressor.

Note that there will be hundreds of advertisements for 'Post-Ban Conversions' and price lists that include collapsing and folding stocks, bayonet lugs, sight posts, grenade launchers, pistol grips, flash suppressors, threading, cutting and crowning, etc. You won't have to worry about where to go when the time comes.

I'll make another blanket suggestion. When the ban sunsets and it's legal to do so, add every evil feature you can think of, take a picture of the gun, and have that picture witnessed, signed and dated so that the Brady Bunch can't come touch it without eliminating the hallmark of most American Gun Control legislation... the Grandfather Clause.
