Advice on Mini SA58 FAL OSW vs SIG 556?

Night,

Off thread topic, but...take something like the old .44 Automag, chamber it in a carbine with a 10-12" barrel, integrally suppressed. Load it with a 300, 325-grain slug doing 1,050 feet per second at the muzzle. Nice quiet thumper for whatever may need a thumpin'. Hell, you could even do it in a 16" levergun with standard rimmed .44 Magnum ammo and a custom suppressor.

I always wanted to cook up some 45-70 at about 500 grains and right below the supersonic mark. A suppressed Marlin Guide Gun would be a hoot!:what:

I love my Sig556. I have BUIS on it (it didn't come with them, I have an early model) and they work fine. I believe the front sight is from Samson and is made for the 556, and the rear sight is an ARMS 40_? They work fine. I also put an Ace folding stock on it.

If Samson and others are making BUIS for the Sig 556, even better!

None of the pics of the SIG 556 I've seen show it with anything but that flimsy looking rear BUIS. Here's a shot from the SIG website

While I think the SIG is a pretty interesting gun, it bums me out that the first thing I'd want to do to a $1200 rifle is spend $500 getting the handguards and BUIS I want. I think I'll wait for the MASADA.

imkris,

As far as the handguards, I would never take the one off mine. I have an X300 on the right side and I was glad not to have to make find a mounting solution.

As far as the BUIS, it really isn't a big deal. Given SIG's track record on designing accessories for this rifle, I consider it a blessing that I didn't have to buy a rifle with whatever goofy crap SIG would have put on the gun. I am happy that I didn't pay the extra for the sights and was able to get a good Samson/Larue sight setup. Yeah, they cost me $200--but the rifle still came in way under the piston AR's out there.

As far as the Maasada. Given how long it took Magpul to come out with the UBR, I wouldn't hold my breath.
