Ok, my eyes are officialy old, so I'm on a path I had never expected to follow. I'm going to scope my Redhawk .44 mag. I've had the Ruger rings for awhile- today I ordered a Weaver 2x from Midway, so I'm kind of committed now.
The gun will be used primarily on hogs, but the occasional coyote or bob cat may wander into the fire zone. Most shots are taken at 50 t0 75 yards with a few at 25 and 100 yards. I usually stick to 240 grain loads, but occasionaly drop in some 300 grains just for the h*** of it- never know when you might meet a bear (very unlikely in my space) but a good excuse to pump it up a little. I'm assuming that with the scope hold over/under is a bit more difficult.
So I'm looking for advice on what to do next weekend. Locktite, electrical tape? Anything I need with the Ruger rings and Weaver scope?
I there any way to bore sight a revolver?
Holster, case recomendations? I doubt my soft case will suffice any more.
How do I protect it from the weather?
Any general advice for an iron sight guy (handgun and long gun) starting to look through a scope (I'll probably be looking at my Mini 14 next)?

I have scoped my Super Redhawk .44 . With mine went to get it bore sighted, lady who ran shop told me fire a box of ammo though it first. Was glad I did because after first 6 rounds all 10 screws loosed a bit. Tightened all fired 6 more and again they where loose. She was right this went on for just about the whole box of ammo. That was about 3k worth of ammo ago and has not loosed since.

When you mount the scope, slide it forward so that the turret is against the back of the front scope ring. This prevents any slippage. My SRH has been wearing a Bushnell 2-6x scope since day one (10+) years and it has never shifted once, even after all these years of firing heavy 240 & 300 grain bullets through it. No loctite, no electrical tape, etc.

I carry mine in an Uncle Mike's bandoleer holster. Works great for me, no complaints.

Like Steve in PA,

I have mine mounted for over 15 years without any Loctite or tape. I have thousands of hot handloads through this .41mag Redhawk without ever having to adjust the scope at all and it has never moved on me. My Redhawk is topped with a 2X Leupold.

Scope is here

Thanks for the input guys.
I've been out of range for a couple of days, but the Weaver (2x28) is here and mounted.
Looks just like your .41 bigmike.
Everything seems to fit right and feels like it will lockup tight with a little more screwdiver action. I'm assuming that there is no easy way to bore sight or level the cross hairs- just sand bag it and work it in?
