I read the article and don't see what there is to argue about.
I read all of the discussion first, then I went back and read the article. I agree, nothing worth arguing about.

Malfunctions are very rare with my pistol, but they do happen sometimes. Now for the part that may be inflammatory: i have taught myself, when doing action drills, to react to any cessation of function by reloading and working the slide by hand. I skip the tap-rack-bang and go straight for the reload. So in a stress situation, whether my gun jams or i lose count of rounds and come up empty, my response and the result is the same; in 2 seconds i'm running a full mag again. I don't trust the slide release, reload and rack.
And if the problem is a mis-feed then you've wasted time. If the problem is a broken extractor (not uncommon on the 1911) then a second magazine isn't really going to help.
It is hilarious to watch people try to refute what I say either by distorting it or claiming they saw someone highly trained one time on a range do something sorta kinda similar maybe. And that doesn't count the downright rude responses.
Magazines don't suddenly malfunction. It is more likely the gun itself will develop an issue and a spare mag will be useless. An extra gun would make far more sense, if someone were really worried about it.
