I wrote an article on tips for summer carry. The main points are that when the weather gets hot people can change their gun, their clothes, or their carry method.

After I wrote this I saw an article by Kevin Mishowski (sp?) who mentioned that you should try to put a barrier between the gun and your skin in the summer. I didn't think of that.

Anybody got any other hot weather carry tips I missed?

Move to Washington State, only worry about it for 2 weeks.

That's my advice ;)

LOL. Yeah, here in Michigan we get the worst. We gotta figure out how to get our guns out from under our clothes in those cold, long, winter months and then how we can conceal them when we've stripped down to shorts and a T-shirt in those hot, long, summer months.

Spring and fall are pretty nice though, for as long as they last...

Washington has 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction. We get rain most of the year, but no real "winter". Here, I'm more concerned about the rain than I am the heat.

One thing to keep in mind with sweat shields - it might block the sweat from the gun, but it also keeps the sweat near your body. If you're really concerned with sweat, something like a pocket rig in cargo shorts is probably a better idea, IMHO. Get the right shorts and still wear a belt and you can still carry a compact double-stack.

SmartCarry's been working for me for many years.

And, no, it doesn't point at my privates.

Doc540,

What's the gun in your Smart Carry and how many guns did you have to try to find one that worked for you? What's the barrel length and size?

Skribs, you nailed it. Funniest thing I've read in a few weeks. So much for summer, but it does yield for easier carrying options.
