I have a nearly new Kimber that has been customised for IDPA. It has everything I would like for a night stand gun except it has no provisions to mount a light. Novak and several others make an aftermarket light rail that is held on with 3 screws. Do any of you have one of these? I really can't afford another custom pistol right now so this seems like a viable option. Could the rail be removed during shooting season so that the pistol will holster properly and then be reinstalled as needed?

Thanks, OS

I wouldnt be comfortable using one attached with screws only. Caspian reccomends welding or silver soldering theirs.

Surefire makes a rail, the MR07 IIRC, that mounts like the 610Rs did. They've got a replacement slide stop and a set screw that goes against the triggerguard. I've been told that 610Rs were hard on the pistol's finish, so I would imagine their add on rail would be too. Another downside is the price, $150 last time I looked.

I have only used the Brownells versions. its a screw and Acrglass mounting. People have been very happy with them. Off course that means they are not removeable.
I would be confident that the three screw model would hold. Use light weigth loctite.
