aguila mini slugs

I saw slugs at the last gun show I went to, they were like 50 cents a piece but I didn't get any because I heard they feed well into an 870 but I wish I did now, I think a 1/2 oz slug would be perfect for those pesky feral dogs that keep chasing my deer and eating my chickens.

Anyone tried the minis (whether shot or slug) in an 870? The link above says they may not feed properly in all shotguns.

Offhand thought: Pros/Cons of using this for HD, over 00 buck? I'd probably stick with buck, but am always open to learning new ideas.

They don't cycle in an 835. They flip up on the elevator and sit on the primer face rather than lay flat.

Cut a spent shell and see how it cycles.

The only shotgun I know for a fact that will feed them without modifications are the Winchester 1300 Series/Defenders. I think the 870s and Mossberg 500s need lifter modifications. Very little recoil.

Just my .02,

Why on earth would you pay $.75 each for these?

You can reload 12 gauge without any special tools at all ... and high strength hulls normally litter clay game stations for free. Seems silly to pay so much for these limited utility novelty shells.

And if you spent $50 on a roll crimper and a shell trimmer, you could load these things by the hundreds, for a few pennies each, for the rest of your life.

But i suppose that's how the world works - People chomp at their bits to trade their money (and life experience) just to save a bit of time.

MWM, it's because we want to try them first, see how they work. That's a $12 proposition vs your $50 plus hours of time.

I tried them once in my 590A1, once. They will not load from the tube reliably, they often flip around backwards. If you're willing to push them one at a time into the chamber they work just fine.

I haven't tried any of their slugs but I know they make them because I seen them at the local store where I picked up a box of the buckshot ones to give a try.

My results were like many other people in my Mossberg pump, they are short enough that they can turn up end wise or even completely around the wrong way and don't chamber. I did shoot a couple by dropping them straight into the chamber and the recoil was quiet low. I kept the rest of them and maybe one day i'll shoot them in the Winchester 101 over and under.

As far as the price of them vs load your own, I load my own standard buckshot loads but I use a standard mec 600jr and it won't come down far enough to crimp that short of a shell. You probably could load them cheaper if you desired to shoot many of them. Then again reloading doesn't save you money, it just lets you shoot more with the same amount of money you would have spent anyway. With a shell trimmer and a roll crimper tool you could shorten up your own shells. Good luck finding any load data for a mini shell tho maybe its out there, I never bothered to look.

I think I give right around $12 for a box of 20 of the mini shells tho, I have wasted way more money on way less useful stuff before.
