20rds - 12 gauge Aguila Mini-Shell Slugs $6.95

This is Aguila 12 gauge mini-shell slugs. This ammo is loaded with a 7/8oz. slug and is only 1 1/2" long. This ammo has a very light recoil, so it is great for training kids to shoot with a 12 gauge. This ammo travels at 1250 FPS and is great for hunting and is a superior defense round. With this ammo your typical shotgun can hold 33% to 50% more rounds legally and have a lighter recoil. Any single, double, and most pump shotguns can use this ammo without any modifications. Unfortunately, this ammo will not work in semi-autos.

I was thinking it would be nice to have a few extra round in the HD gun.

Make sure your pump can feed them. Some can, some can't. $6.95 for 20 shots should be sufficient to find out, and somewhat amusing even if you have to load single.

They work fine in break-actions, one way or another.

People use the birdshot version for laughs (or bets) on the trap range, every once in a while. Not very often.

Mini shells have a tough time feeding correctly

They tend to flip end over end, when they are released from a tubular magazine.

One solution is a postive stop on the shell elevator, but this would prevent "normal " length shells from feeding correctly.

There are also issues with tumbling and "stovepiping" during ejection. This is tougher to cure.

Too bad - they are fun.

The Aguila mini shells and the Winchester Defender work together like they were made for one another! Other shotguns, however, WILL need work to properly chamber them. I use the 00 buck in mine, but haven't tried the slugs. My Defender is the HD version, with the extended tube. I can load almost twice as many minis as I can 2-3/4 "ers.

Have tried them in both my 1991 vintage Maverick 88, and a 1962 or so Mossberg 500.

Less than zero sucess in getting them to feed in either gun. They tend to scoot off that very small shell elevator in the Mossberg guns..sometimes falling through to the ground.

Bad thing to hear 'click.', when REALLY need to hear "BOOM!"

Good for the single-barrel break opens and the O/U or SxS "Coach guns"

I have found no repeating shotgun that functions with these things. I see no reason for them unless you have a repeating shotgun that WILL run 100% with them. There was once word that there would be a gun set up for these short shells. I've never seen one.

As to actual performance of the shell when fired. It is ok. Nothing special one way or the other.

The buckshot feed, fire, and eject without any problems in my 870. After heliarc-ing an extender on the elevator they work perfectly in my Mossberg 600AT.:D

I'd never heard of these --thanks!

These look interesting; I'm glad that someone vouches for them working in an 870 :) Since I shoot guns at targets for easygoing fun (rather than painstakingly slow at critters for eatin'), I like the idea of having 50% or more shots in the barrel before reloading.

They are definitely fun, and I could see how the slugs wouldnt be a terrible defensive round inside your home. The problem, as mentioned above, is feeding. I love to play with them at the range, but they WILL NOT feed in my Mossberg 500 or my 870 youth model unless I was to modify the lifter--which would prevent normal shells from feeding.

There was a pump action, vertical magazine fed gun designed for them that hit the market 1-2 years ago. I remember seeing the ad in CDNN's catalog, i believe it was. Does anyone have a link?

i ve used them in the winchester defender pump i owned and a friends cheap maverick and they worked fine. less recoil, great for home defense.
