I've read a lot about Aguila mini-slugs and the such on this site. Can anyone tell me their experiences, what the specs of the rounds are, how they function, and where exactly I can pick some up? They sound like they'd be nice in my 870 or my Mossy 590.

Thanks in advance

They're expensive, dirty, and don't feed in any Mossberg or Remington that I've handled.

Caveat emptor.

I picked up a box from aimsurplus to break my ex girlfriend of her shotgun fears. The 7.5 shot stuff was low recoil, a single load proposition only though. She was able to bust hand tossed clays with it and become more proficient with the shotgun before we broke up

I haven't tried them in a 590 Mossberg (I don't own a 590), but those do NOT FEED properly in a 500 Mossy or Maverick 88.

The cartridge elevator in the Mossys is a short 'skeleton' type elevator, and those aguila mini-shell just fall through to the ground, In My Experience.

Aguila minishells are great for close range use in single
and double barrel hinge actions, like my Savage 94,
H&R Tooper, NEF SB1 and Baikal. I have given up trying
to use them (magazine fed) from any of my pumps.

I think of them as a .410 load for the 12 ga.

I've seen a few of these empties around, but mostly I think people buy them because they are a novelty. I've done some reloading with a roll crimper with shells that were 2" long and they seemed to work ok. They were your basic one ounce target loads. They weren't as significantly short as the Aguilas, but they were shorter than standard. I did it because the hulls that I used were already shot up (read as crimp was unusable) and I wanted to goof around. The idea of shooting these in a repeater seems that they might work for some guns and not for others. They might work ok in an 870 since the lift gate is not usually open like the Mossy is. Buy em and try em if you like. Standard shells work as well and if you need more ammo, buy an extended mag tube, if you can.
