AHH! Finally!! Roanoke Times apology....

Most newspapers refuse to give out the home addresses or the unlisted telephone numbers of their reporters and editors. The reason is to prevent harassment by those who might not like an article or editorial.

I agree with that, but have to wonder why a paper then has no respect for the privacy of others. That the CCW records are public records is not sufficient excuse for their publication. Thousands of other records (real estate, auto licenses) are public records, yet the paper did not publish them.

The obvious intent was to embarrass CCW holders, to allow them to be harassed and intimidated by associates, and to cause them to give up their licenses. The paper's new stance is like a murderer apologizing for his crime; it sounds good, but it is just a bit late.

Now that has got to be the most sorry a$$ excuse for an apology since the Dixie Twits.
What this does show, is that now is the time to keep the heat on the paper (they're obviously starting to feel that heat), continue to contact the sponsors and buisness advertisers and let them know that if they continue to support and advertise in the paper you will forever boycott that business. They should TRULEY give an apology and fire the dimwit. Nothing else is acceptable.:fire:

Weasel words. Nothing more. A politician type apology.

I bet they are WAY overdoing the threats they claim to have received, in order to continue to make legal gunowners appear to be a bunch of red-neck hooligans. The "apology" references these supposed threats numerous times.

The apology also seems to rationalize that LEOs, retired LEOs, and certain crime victims have reason to carry, but not ordinary, law abiding citizens who are simply exercising the 2A rights and who don't want to become a victim.

This Trejbal character is a spineless joke. He should continue to publish his silly trivia about driving in the snow in Virginia, or talk about fashion or cooking. He seems qualified in these areas.

"led to a crime" is hard to test here ...

"Though many of our critics believe that the database handed burglars a shopping list of households with guns and abusers a list of their victims, no one can point to a single incident where similar publications led to a crime."

Perhaps thieves should be required by law to leave more detailed notes, then.

Or, alternate ending to above sentence: "... no one can point to a single incident where a newspaper was left at the scene of such a crime."

You're saying more than you know here. One of the reasons these people publish the CCW lists is so that everyone can nose around and see if their family friends or carpoolers have a permit (and presumably a gun). These individuals are too spineless to take a stand and actually ask Sally's mother before they let little Jimmy play at her house. They much prefer to snoop and take a passive-aggressive approach by quietly telling little Jimbo to never play with Sally again.

Lists like this are intended to chill activity by "exposing" people. Whether they fear ostracisim, criticism, or abuse (such as criminal activity), people will avoid the activities which lead to being on the published lists. The media wants to curtail the numbers of concealed carry permits by scaring people via public identification.

The Roanoke Times demonized law abiding citizens. Put some at risk. Then gave a belated insincere apology. I won't buy another of their papers as long as Trejbal works there. They can go to H*LL !!!:fire:

Re: crappy Times & Crappy Fake apology

We stopped subscribing to the Roanoke Times many mooons ago when we decided it was way too liberal. For a time, I had a sub to The Washington Times, but then that just cost too much. I get most if not all of my news from Talk Radio, The Internet, and forums like this one.

CNN Interview Originally Scheduled Tonight....Postponed

This is a little frustrating, the interview orginally scheduled for tonight on CNN has been changed. This is part of the VCDL alert I got :

********************************************************
2. CNN delays yet again the airing of the story on the Roanoke Times
debacle :-(
********************************************************

I just got off the phone with CNN reporter Kyung Lah. She said the
CNN story on the Roanoke Times situation that was to air tonight has
been moved to next week. She does not yet know which day.

I will put out an alert just as soon as I know the new date and time
