So I am just sitting here waiting for my new toy to arrive, a 1858 Reminton 36 cal. from Cabelas. Every time I here a truck drive by I perk up and wait to here the door bell. To make matters worse there is some street sonstruction going on neat my house and I keep hearing the dump trucks and heavy machines driving by. Man does any one else get this jittery while waiting for a new BP toy in the mail?

I'm the same when when I'm waiting for something in the mail. I haven't seen an 1858 Remington in .36 cal before, I thought they were all .44 cal.

according to one of my collectors guides to guns yep they came in 36 cal. I guess they were just not as common.

and yep it does feel pretty sweet in my hands, can't wait to get to the range this weekend.

I just got finished tearin her down and cleaning the grease it comes in. man she looks nice, I think I will call her Pale Rider.... :D

So how long did you have to wait? I ordered a Uberti from Midway, and it took right at 4 months.

Wow that was a long time, I waited about six days. I put the order in on 2/17 and received it today. Even when i ordered my 51 from DGW it only took a little over a week.

Funny thing Rob, I had almost the exact same experience today. My brown-clad friend showed up bearing gifts around 1:30 PM. I'm going to go join the official THR club as soon as I get the picture uploaded.

I got the army model. Ordered it Monday afternoon :D

Yeah, I don't know what the heck went on with that. Usually Midway is on top of their game in sending stuff out ASAP.

SAME HERE!!

Got my 5 1/2" Pietta '58 from the UPS man today. They were on back-order....I didn't expect it for another week.
Fit, and finish looks really good. The blueing is deep and dark. The timing is good and the action sounds crisp. If it shoots like my other Pietta '58...I'll be a happy guy.

A big "thumbs up" for Cabelas....
..first off, they had a great sale price of $199.
..they made it easy for me to have it delivered to my door, even though I live in anti-gun Illinois.
..they honored the $5 shipping rate from the night that I placed the order, even though they back-ordered the gun, and I had to call back the next day with some ID info.
..the gun arrived a full week ahead of schedule.

If you are considering a bp revolver, I can recommend Cabelas.

I second that Kbbailey, just remember that you have to have someone who is 21 or over to recieve the pakage.

The gun does really look great, I think I might strip the grips though and refinish them. Saw some onve that were a natural wood color and they looked great.

I'll agree with KB's assessment as well. I only paid $200, they gave me free shipping (which is the current "order online" promo), and the operators I spoke with on the phone could not have been friendlier.

Makes ya wonder just exactly how many of these things they sell on a daily basis! :what:

I have spent the last 30 min going over this gun carefully. I can say that the wood to metal fit, and the overall finish is better than the last Ruger that I bought (SP101).

The only imperfection that I see is that the very bottom edge of the trigger is quite sharp. I will smooth it out with a file soon.

I almost won the bid on a used stainless steel Uberti at Gunbroker. Now I am glad that I was outbid in the last moment. This is a very nice gun and almost half the cost.

Now I need a lanyard loop for the bottom of the grip, and maybe some ivory grips....anyone have know where to order??

Well they are not the best pics but here we go. I also had to throw in a pic of my 51 and 58 side by side.:)

I had to wait more than a month for my back ordered .44 Rem from Cabelas. My .36 got here in three days but at 7:30 pm.

Can one of you gents with the .36 1858s tell me what that barrel length is? 6.5"? I handled one of these .36s (used, at a ridiculously high price) at a local store and it just felt like a million bucks. I've been sorely tempted . . . especially since Cumpston says they shoot like a house on fire - his Percussion Revolvers book reports velocities from the high 1100 fps range to the mid 1200 fps range with the 85 grain ball. Makes sense - the chambers hold five grains more powder than the Colts' do.
