Well it was a good day. Bought my first suppressor. I was gone from the house a whole 2 1/2 hours. I come home make a sandwich, notice back door open. I go over to shut it and discover it kicked in. My first real adrenaline dump. I am still shaky. 5 hours later.

Crap

I do not recomend entering a house that may be occupied by a mutant zombie biker, but I was already inside. I unholster my CCW and clear the house without issue.

Now for the fun part. Whats missing? All electronics 60 something Playstation games etc. are in proper place etc. I have a Walmart gun cabinet that has my more "PC" and cheaper guns. The stuff that is fine for company to see. Total value of the 3 guns in is less than $600. They only took one out of it. The cheapest money wise one of the bunch, but It was the first gun my wife ever bought me.. A chinese knock off coach gun. (1887) Passing up the Mosin and unfired Rem 870 that betrothed to a member here. (Texasgunlover you shotty is safe) Oh yeah they locked the gun cabinet back and took the key. I only used it as a barrier against the kids when they were smaller. Thats all for the livingroom.

On to the bedroom. Wife's jewelry is gone. Her Coach and Dooney bags. (I shouldnt even admit that I know what those are.) My watches and Glock 21SF for home protection is gone. This is wierd too: they took the time to remove the M6 light from the Glock. Flatscreen still there.

On to my daughters bedroom :barf: They took my 7 year olds jewelry box. Total value <$100 It just had a very small (think baby) diamond ring ($70ish) that I bought her the day she was born.

Good news is the 1000lbs of browning safe did its job. It deterred the thieves. It went untouched. Most of the sentimental stuff and guns were in there. My current fear now is they will come back with my own gun and force me to open it. The wife refuses to stay with family tonight choosing to stand by her husband. The Mot house is on high alert tonight. We are all gonna be in the same bed mainly for comfort. Foot note: Police response was 51 minutes. At least they responded this time. They usually dont, even with shots fired.

Need to go through files to find Serial # for shotty. But the number 8990 is under the butt pad. Serial number for the Glock 21 SF is PDF 485 I am in the Southeast Texas area so if it pops up in Houston or Beaumont a reward I think is in order.

Stuff passed up: The other two guns mentioned, 60-70 Playstation and Wii games. One of the wife's watches. 100's of CDs. (maybe they dont like my music) The M6 light is the most confusing. Anything else normaly in a house that you would think a thief would want. Small valuables easy to fence were passed up. As well as ten of thousands rounds of ammo and magazines.

We think we know who did it. But we need to be absolutley sure before we make that kind of accusation. Especially because we think its family. I would feel horrible if I was wrong.

Looks like tax refund is going to reinforce door frames, lockable gate in driveway and the film that you put on your windows to make em shatter resistant like a windsield from a car.

Oh well it doesnt feel right without my G21 on my hip. So for gun discussion what handgun for secondary open carry at home? G30 SF, G17, G19, Security Six? Speed Six. Paired with 870 or BCM middy.

Thanks all for reading my tale. I cannot stress enough the importance of having a safe. And dont jack with me right now RSC whatever. It performed its intended duty: to deter a theft. I bought the 6'tall 1000lbs model, and bolted to a slab.

Thank Yall
God Bless

Very sorry to hear about your troubles. It's definitely something I greatly fear. Anytime we are gone from home for several hours or a few days, I'm always apprehensive about pulling into the driveway and visually scanning the home and surroundings. I'm glad no one was at home, and no one was hurt. Don't know if you are familiar with TexasGunTrader.com, but I'd scan that site regularly to see if any of your stuff pops up. Good luck, I wish you all the best. With any kind of luck, you may see your stuff again...may not be very likely, but you never know.

I was on a business trip once and someone broke in the house I was staying in and all they stole were my roller blades and the ice cream from the freezer. Leaving the S&W 629 44 mag on the nite stand. Who know what the thief was thinking.

Man... That sucks...
Had my .308 Remmy stolen last year. Guarantee you, or someone your kids know, did it. Most of the time, thats the case. They didn't bother kicking in my door though. Just walked in and walked off with it.
I have my night stand gun locked in a box bolted to the night stand. Kind of tough to walk out of the house with a night stand in the daylight.
Hope it turns back up... Make sure you get the police report filed asap.

Dang man, I'm sorry to hear that. heere's hoping for a quick resolution - one that doesn't involve family as the culprit. I'm not in TX, but I do have some people around that way, so I'll pass along the info. Do you have an email address to contact you at, for non-THR folks?

Thank yall. My email is the same screen name @ msn dot com. I live a reclusive life style. I can count my friends on three fingers. But these are friends that all they woud have to do is ask and they can have. No questions asked. I have keys to their house thankfully locked up as well.

Kids arent old enough to have friends over. She is only seven, and daddy is still her best friend. I am keeping that as long as she lets me.

uzimon: I just purchased it....waiting on paperwork.

That is horrible, I am very sorry that the sanctity of your home was compromised like that. I hope that they find the guns and other valuables and return them to you and your family!

And I would OC the Glock 17.

Sorry this happened Mot. The fence and gate you mentioned are both a good idea. Also, if you don't mind having a bunch of stuff chewed up for the next year, you may want to look at getting a couple of GS dogs. Fence + Gate + Big Dogs = a property that most gutter trash would pass by. Good luck on getting your stuff back.

Save your self some money and get a rabid dog thats on steroids and has a mental issue.
Sad to say it sounds like someone who has been in your house before and had given thought about what would be easiest to sell for them.

If no dog can be purchased an alarm system may be a good idea, Not to inform the cops as much as to inform you while sleeping.
The worst part imo is if they do come back and your home and catch them you may know them and be in a real pickle and not know if you should use deadly force or not and in that split second make a bad decision.

Good luck man, I feel for you.
Hopefully insurance will cover it and you can replace the items with upgraded stuff.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. It is a tremendous sinking feeling the second you realize your family's house is open because someone forced their way in.

My current fear now is they will come back with my own gun and force me to open it. The wife refuses to stay with family tonight choosing to stand by her husband.

  1. I would fear a return if I were in your shoes. It is extremely unlikely to happen, but if it happened to me, that would be in the back of my mind for a long time to come. I've been broken into before and had a gun stolen, and for a long time I worried someone would return to point it at me.
  2. Your wife rocks. Use some of that insurance money to get her something special.

Oh well it doesnt feel right without my G21 on my hip. So for gun discussion what handgun for secondary open carry at home? G30 SF, G17, G19, Security Six? Speed Six. Paired with 870 or BCM middy.

I carry my 19 around at home, so you can't go wrong with that. It is light and comfortable. I'm also not one of the crowd that feels 9mm isn't up to the task. Then again, 10 rounds of 45 plus your reload will get the job done, too. I haven't bought a g30sf YET (tax season, she comes). I was not a glock fan for years. My 19 changed my opinion and now it looks as if it will multiply.

I keep an 870 for a backup plan. I'd rather use the AR, but after a careful evaluation of my skills at the moment...my family is better served by me having my trust 870 marine magnum at the read than an AR in which I am less proficient with.

Most of all, good luck getting the family life back to "normal"! Not that there ever is such a thing as normal with a family. :D

The thought of someone of this caliber running around with A G21 + 4 mags of 230grn +p Hornady Tap. I got lazy. I cant carry at work. I should have taken the time to put it in the safe every morning.

This is 5 times in 5 years. They have never come inside but I knew it was coming. I'm just an hourly man. It took a lot of overtime and a tax refund to buy a $2000 safe. It took a lot of overtime to buy all my wifes jewelry and my Glock. I have been building up as I go along. I think for now some well placed game cameras outside. Just enough to cover a car tag and maybe a face.

The hardest thing to deal with is my wife is a princess. Self annointed. Now she doesnt have any shiny stuff to put on her ears and fingers. That makes for a unhappy princess.

That makes for a unhappy princess.

I'd make the princess happy. When they start refusing family members' requests and choose to stay by your side, they are definitely keepers.

It took a lot of overtime to buy all my...

I know that feeling, brother. When someone takes what you have worked so hard for, it is infuriating. I don't have many thing, but they are mine and I worked for them dang it.

Definately....The choice is hers does she want a bunch of little things ore one big one. She is also understanding in the need to harden the house some before we replace "stuff". They used to take anything outside (read: my stuff) this is the first time her "stuff" got attacked.

This time they were after tangible items. What if next time its my wife, daughter, or son?

Too bad with me being full time working and her being full time college student we cannot devote the time needed to be fair to a dog.

Part of me wants to catch these persons. The other part hopes I dont. Right now it looks like no one is home in case they come back with tools.

I only intend to act in an ethical and lawful manner. Its only "stuff" I am not out to "get" anybody. I just refuse to lay down and be a victim. This is Texas. The response of local sheriff has always been lacking. Even with NFA stuff. I live in a rural area, my family's safety is my responibility. No one elses.

I live in a rural area,

Ditto...
This usually rules out the random passer-by...

Back when we lived in town, stuff would, on rare occasions, go missing from the garage, if left open for a time...:fire:

Where we are now, there are NO random yahoos walking down the street.

I concur that your mook is most likely familiar with your home...

I too, will keep my eyes open fer yer stuff.
Best of luck to ya.

Thanks to urban sprawl, we've got a large influx of people that are moving out of large cities. I've met a few people at work who are anti gun and beleive the sheriff department capable of saving your life at any moment. Then they get broken into or a neighbor experiences a break-in while they are home (impromptu home invasions) and they realize the above sentiment. They also realize just how long a 15-30 minute wait is when you really need someone NOW.

Man, sorry to hear this--it's beyond the normal meaning of stressful.

I think it's a good idea on the game cameras. I know you're aware, but I would consider it a given they'll make a return visit--it's the criminal mindset--it was "easy" and they obviously know there's at least a couple of other guns in the accessible cabinet (and they have the key).

Be careful and get a Catahoula cow dog if you can.
