I purchased a brand new T-1 about a week ago and while inspecting the unit, I noticed a small fracture located under the rear lens. There appears to be a skinny metal ring making a circular border underneath the rear outside lens (I'm not sure on what it's called or it's function) but in the 1-2 o'clock position it appears the ring is broken up and there are small pieces fragmented in the general area. I've attached the best picture I could obtain with my phone. I contacted their customer service last week and still awaiting a response. Anyone have any knowledge or input to this? 20141111_213053_zps8513daa2.jpg

For being brand new, there sure is what appears to be dirt on that outer ring with the two tool holes. Maybe that is also dirt in the gap where the inner snap ring is?

The stuff on the outer rings came from the cheap lens covers. Every time I take them off it leaves a slight white residue from the rubber that brushes right off. I don't believe that's the issue though. It's a silver ring that goes along the entire inside that looks broke at that 1-2 o'clock spot.

It's real. Purchased from AZ Armament. I own other Aimpoints as well.

Gotcha. I really can't tell from the photo. I'm not sure I could tell with the item in front of me without a 8x loupe of some sort of magnifier.

Here's the official word from Aimpoint:

"The ring is a ultraviolet glue used to seal the rear lens. All Aimpoint sights are pressure tested, and I highly doubt that there will be any problems. There is more glue you can’t see under the rear retaining ring. I would be glad to replace the rear lens and ring if you wish."

I then spoke with them on the phone (BTW very cool, helpful and down to earth guys) and was encouraged to test the thing out by dropping it in water overnight to see if any moisture gets inside. They sure do honor the warranty and stand behind the product. I will be doing this overnight and will post the results.

You don't see many manufacturers basically tell you to go ahead and try to ruin it if it is, in fact, broken. I like their faith in their products.
