More Pelosi hypocrisy... Can anyone doubt the stance of Democrats anymore? They are the "rulers" and we are the rabbel. Who can doubt how they feel about the 2nd amendment?

And just for the record, I don't think that congress, except in rare occasions should have this privledge.

"Air Pelosi" - Will America Get to Keep the Frequent Flyer Miles?

Speaker pursues military flights
By Rowan Scarborough
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
February 1, 2007

The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pressing the Bush administration for routine access to military aircraft for domestic flights, such as trips back to her San Francisco district, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

The sources, who include those in Congress and in the administration, said the Democrat is seeking regular military flights not only for herself and her staff, but also for relatives and for other members of the California delegation. A knowledgeable source called the request "carte blanche for an aircraft any time."

"They are pressing the point of her succession and that the [Department of Defense] needs to play ball with the speaker's needs," one source said. The request originally went to the Pentagon, which then asked the White House to weigh in.

Mrs. Pelosi's request is not new for a speaker, who is second-in-line in presidential succession. A defense source said the speaker's regular access to a military plane began after the September 11, 2001, attacks. Rep. J. Dennis Hastert, Illinois Republican, who was speaker at the time, started using U.S. Air Force planes for domestic travel to and from his district for security reasons. A former Hastert aide said the congressman did not use military planes for political trips or regularly transport his family.

The defense source said Mr. Hastert requested a plane with good communications so he could conduct legislative business. The military flights increased to the point the speaker used a military plane for many, if not all, flights to his Illinois district, the former aide said. Sources said Mrs. Pelosi's request goes beyond what Mr. Hastert received. The speaker's legal counsel is spearheading the talks.

I'll personally buy her a one-way international plane ticket to anywere on the planet if she promises to stay.

I'm thinking Somalia would be a good choice for her. Very strict gun laws. :D

It doesn't have to be firearms related in the legal and political area. Anyweho, I agree she doesn't need to have a jet that will take her NON Stop to San Francisco from WADC. Shoot, she needs to buy her own private jet for that. Otherwise do as ALL former speakers of the house have done, take MAC flights.

Sniper - the mods would probably beg to differ! ;) But, since I'm IBTL:

So, she's an elititst. What a shock - NOT! We're all quite familiar here about how she and her "better than you!" ilk want to ban guns "for the children," yet KEEP their CCW permits and/or armed bodyguards.

But now she wants her friends and family to be able to fly anywhere at any time on the taxpayers' dime? This might be a good thing to open others' (outside of the 2A movement) eyes to her "values." But I'm sure that the MSM will just say that the mean ole Bush administration is trying to deny her her "rights..." :barf:

Nonsense. People should read up a bit before they go all ballistic. Yes, she's no friend of the 2A, but when you say uneducated stuff about your enemies in a public forum, you weaken your own position and empower your enemies.

I can't believe this is still an issue. It's been debunked pretty thoroughly. WashTimes will have more egg on its face than it usually does.

When even Tony Snow says "uh, geeze...you guys are way off base", you know it's probably just a bunch of hot air.

The House Sgt at Arms requested a plane capable of flying to California nonstop. End of story. This is gun related how? Oh yeah, she sucks on 2A issues...but what that has to do with how the powers that be ensure her security is beyond me.

Actually, this topic is DEFENSE related, because the reason she wants the plane is for security purposes. Nice to know the first thing she thinks of is herself. Terrorists hit and she'll have taken our guns, meanwhile she gets armed guards and a free trip on OUR DOLLARS!

I still think it's a load of crap though. In a SHTF scenario, she ain't gonna fly back to San Francisco- they're going to shuttle her off to some NORAD bunker (she's second in line to presidency after the VP). The only reason she wants this is for personal travel. I think she should fly Southwest like the rest of us. Oh for the look on her face when her boarding pass printed out GROUP C...

At risk of putting my right wing credentials on the line here...

It is not outside the realm of imagination that something horrible could occur to the President and VP if they are in the same city. We need the Speaker of the House ready to take the helm in the event of a crisis.

God save us all if it is Speaker Pelosi but that is beside the point.

IMHO the elitists are showing their usual colors....

The "official" explanation seems to be a desire to fly non-stop instead of putting in here and there for fuel in a smaller aircraft.

Other than the 50 passengers (or more) that can also be included at our expense that almost makes sense.

Except that playing the odds would indicate she'd be "halfway" from wherever if the stuff hit the fan. Or, worst case, the Air Force could easily provide whatever protection she might need to get wherever she has to get. It's not like she's been assigned a Piper Cub....

On-board communications should be adequate anyway, and if it takes another hour or two to get to some bunker in whatever country George Soros just bought, so what....

Regards,

The "non-stop" requirement for a bigger aircraft is BS. The Gulfstream biz-jet, as used by he government, can easily go coast to coast non-stop.

She already said she would fly commercial and can certainly afford it. The .gov wants her to fly military for security reasons. She wants non-stop. Didn't Hastert start this whole business about Speakers, security and planes? Hmmm?

I think they should present her with a sail plane and say, "here, so you don't create more greenhouse gasses..." then she can be an eco-friendly flyer.

After I posted my last note I thought about that one.... You're probably correct. The wife and I flew from CLE to DFW last spring on a CRJ, whatever the heck that is - "Canadair Regional Jet" or some such. About 75 passengers in the cattle-car configuration American Eagle was using. (My femurs are about 3/8" too long to fit in the seats....:fire: ) While I can't say it'd make cross-country in one hop or not, it didn't have to stop halfway during the 1200 or so miles between hither and thither.

IAC the Gulfstream is pretty much the same sort of bird in most respects. Loaded with a dozen or so people it probably would be adequate set up as a biz-jet.... Speeds a non-issue. The big bird and the Gulfstream should be within 100mph of each other. With adequate communications on board it shouldn't matter.

As much as I hate to say anything pro-Pelosi :cuss: it probably is a good idea to keep her flying non-commercially. Security on Commercial flights is pretty awful :what: . OTOH a "known" aircraft (i.e. big old "United States of America" on the side) may be a bigger target.... The custody fight over who's next in line really means that she needs the protection....

(More chances to crank off Joe Sixpack too!)

Regards,

But doesn't San Fran detest the military? Why in heck would her delegation want to travel on military equipment?

Better to ask their enlightened artsy fartsy local college kids to build them a plane using their grasp of "the arts".
