You guys think Academy would let me return one?

Maybe with a pellet in there, that 1377 would make the same noise as my sheridan. But if it was too loud, maybe they'd take it back. Academy is like the walmart of sporting goods (a walmart who stocks AR's).

Had pretty much decided on the daisy 747, but at half the price, if as you guys say it's going to be much quieter with a pellet in it (than ewhn i pumped it once and jumped at the noise), maybe it's worht a chance. Academy generally takes anything back- but they might have a policy that automaticaly precludes "firearms", if they even consider an airgun as such (of course it's not, but I know legally, some places define it as > Xfps, not by the actual type firing mechanism). Only $48 bucks there. Daisy would be almost a hundred more than that shipped (have kind of ruled out that izh as bad ass as it would be).

The 1377 and the IZH are in a totally different class...

I'm not really encouraging you to buy a 1377 if you're considering an IZH, only mentioning that it's decent--i.e. not too bad for a Walmart airgun. ;)

not going to buy a izh46m

Not considering an izh any longer. Overkill for my purposes. No, of course I don't think $50 vs $270 are in the same class.

I am most likely going to get a 747. I might even skimp and go for the 1377 from academy first, especially since I might be able to return it if it's too loud, then get the more quiet (according to multiple reviews I've read now- even more quiet than the izh) daisy (currently searching academy's return rules).

You might also look into the Beeman P3. It's cheaper than the IZH but still much nicer than the 1377 for target work.

talk about a recurring theme

funny you mention that one john. I took this to an air forum lol, and that's the one they keep recommending, but based on other factors than noise, which is my main concern.

You guys living in houses don't think about the reality of apartment setup. Quiet is relative. NONE of them problably sound loud when you know neighbors are soo close, buffered only by a thin wall.

The Beeman P3 is a nice gun. I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread...until I got an IZH-46M. The Izzy makes the P3 seem like a cheap toy. The danger in buying an Izzy is that if you are a gun and gear junky, it may whet your appetite for a high end match gun, which can seriously damage your wallet:
