I need to pickup a co-worker at an airport in the coming weeks. I have a CCW permit. Is the TSA (and Police) still conducting traffic stops?

Should I not have my carry weapon in my car (if I'm picking this person up at the curb)?

Does anyone know the rules?

It depends on your local CCW laws. Under Florida's CCW (and federal law), you can carry a CCW inside an airport up to the security perimeter. You can't try to pass through the checkpoints or metal detectors.

If the NC license doesn't specifically ban airports, you should be fine.

Our instructor for the Utah CCW said the same thing. You can carry as long as you don't pass into the secure area. The question is then, if they're searching at the entrance to the airport, does that now widen the secure perimeter? I would hate the answer to entail thousands of dollars and a jury.

CHL/CCW laws vary by state, so what's valid in one state may not be valid in another.

In Texas, the law says one's CHL is not valid in the secured area of an airport, so places outside the passenger X-ray/metal detector are OK, places inside are verboten.

A rub is that the Austin airport has placed lettering on the glass outside the terminal & baggage area with wording from PC30.06, the law that specifies the type of sign that businesses who want to exclude CHL holders from carrying on their premesis must post. The wording appears valid, but the law specifies the letters must be of a contrasting color with the background. Red on clear doesn't appear to meet this requirement, so IMHO the signs are not valid.

But I'm NOT going to volunteer to be the test case!
