Would a folding stock such as a Tapco brand work on both the AK-47 and 74? Or are they not interchangeable?

I know that stocks are interchangeable between something like the arsenal SGL 21 and SGL 31, which are on the AK-100 series receiver.
Milled and Stamped receivers use different stocks I believe, but other than that I think they're interchangeable.

What models are you talking about?

Depends on a lot of things.

Some AK rifles in 7.62 and 5.45 have the same type of receivers and could exchange stocks. It really depends on the specifics of the rifle.

Expect fitting to be required also.

Folding stocks designed for the fixed-stock trunnion with the tang are interchangeable, such as the Romanian/East German/Polish wire folders. The integral side folders, such as the AK-100 (Bulgarian/Russian) or the Hungarian folders require their own special trunnions and cutouts in the receiver.

That said, don't use the Tapco folder. The hinge mechanism is plastic and not solid at all.
