as some of you know i have been looking for a cheap gun ($400 and under) that takes cheap ammo with reasonable accuracy (4moa). i think that the ak might do what i ask, except for accuracy. if you prove to me that a cheapo ak will produce acceptable groups (3-4moa) you just might add another ak guy to the list. also what are the websites to all the big ak makers like arsenal, wasr and any others you can think of? what are some other things i should know or look at before buying? i will be going to alot of gunshows pretty soon. accuracy and price are the most important so keep that in mind when suggesting, and i want the most accurate i can find, and if you can show me visual proof or just tell me what your ak usually does it will help alot. will someone price all of the major brands please. thanks in advance.

Is an AK your best bet?

I also have an AK-47 El cheapo, it shoots pretty well but I have had some small problems adding hardware in the recent past. The last time I shot it I ended up shooting a satisfactory group before I left the range, but I still had work to do since the scope was found to be loose and my muzzle brake was loose. I think that will solve my problems now. What do I own you ask? WASR-10 Low-Cap but hell its fun and the right price @ 170.00 on sale in November.
Right now in Milwaukee It is still around 220.00 bucks.

Under $400.00 you'll find that most will produce the same results. The higher quality AK or More rare ones are $600 $700 and up.

Here are some price lists:

Great comparison between Arsenal SA M-7 & the Ewbanks / Romanian AK47:

My brother and I each purchased WASRs and they came with serialized targets showing 5 shot 4 MOA groups for each rifle. With better triggers and sights, the obtainable accuracy only improves. Ours cost $320 so even with a new Fire Control Group and Mojo ghost ring sight, cost of the rifle was under $400.

Haven't shot it on paper in a while but it is Minute-Of-Gallon Jug at 150 yards and a Minute-O-Bad Guy out to at least 200 yards with me pulling the trigger. I think if I could get a rest or get proned out, I could put them COM out to 300 and make it a dangerous place for you out to about 400.

EDITTED TO SAY: Did you post the same question at The Firing Line? Cause I just found the target my WASR came with so I got more pics and info over there:

what about the strait stocked sagia's, they seem like well made rifles? are there hicap mags for them?

The Saigas are well made rifles. I have one in .308 that is in standard configuration and will do at least 1.5" @ 100 yrds. It has done better, but that seems to be the average. The .308 specifically does not have hi-caps, except for a few ways you can attempt to 'smith them into accepting other 20 rnd magazines. The x39 and 5.56 models can be easily converted to take other standard hi-cap magazines.

All that said, AKs are not target rifles. They are fighting rifles. Don't buy one thinking you'll win respect from 1" grps at the range. Buy an AR or a bolt gun for that kind of mission.

It's been said before, but you might want to check out an SKS also. You can get a 'excellent' or 'unissued' condition one for about $150 in the Yugo 59/66, and I've had very good results with mine. Just as easy to take down for cleaning as an AK, too. They are a bit longer, may be a bit heavier, but out of the box tend to give better accuracy.

MTM, if you want to get prone with an AK, just pick up some 20 round mags. That should do the trick unless you've got really short arms.

In which case you need to inject yourself with some monkey DNA. :D
