Do I need one? No. Do I want one? Oh yeah!
will a wasr 10 hold up as a ak? I have heard they are a low model and parts arnt the best, might not hold up for long. Is this true?
I just found a SGL20 Saiga - Russian made stamped receiver.. Manufacturer SAIGA AK RIFLE modified by ARSENAL ARMS

should I go for one of these insteed?

Was there something the matter with your previous thread?

By the way, this isn't Twitter or some chat room.

Why not think about what you want to talk about rather than pour a 'chain of consciousness' out here?

I am just looking for a good type of ak 47 thats not going cost me over 800-850. I need advice from other ak 47 others pro/cons of them I dont want to get ripped off on a ak. I see other people talking about the same things on these forums lol.

While they are a low model, they are good for an entry level AK. The fit and finish leaves a bit to be desired on some examples, but they are not as bad as many make them out to be.

The main concerns are canted front sight and canted gas block, as well as over sized mag wells which cause mag wobble. My particular WASR-10 has over 5K rounds through it and never any problems with the exception of a bad mag which didn't always feed right. Simple solution to that was don't use that particular magazine.

If you find one for a decent price (not as easy as it sounds these days), then pick it up.

Saigas are legit russian AKs but they are imported in sporter form. Either you convert one yourself or get one that has already been converted.

You answered your own ? in the thread posted in #3 of this thread. Here is a Quote from that thread Buy you!

I want an good ak that WILL last

just buy one at a decent price and find out.
if you don't like it sell it for 50 dollars less than you bought it.

If you don't like the way that sounds, then you probably shouldn't be interested in shooting/collecting firearms.

I know, and you've asked the same question twice dude.
You have gotten advice, and good advice at that, we've told you:

WASR-10's are the low grade ak. They are not cheap plastic toys that break, but some times they have issues, like mag wobble and canted front sights. Only the mag wobble affects performance, and only if it is extreme. If you go to a gun show, pick a couple up, and ask if you can test fit a mag. If you get one from the internet, it may have excess wobble with steel mags. Then you get a polymer mag, they are generally cheaper, but fit tighter, thus work.

lots of good advice on the types.

I believe in another thread they were ranked: (best to worst, respectively priced)

Arsenal
Saiga
Yugo
Bulgarian
Wasr-10

IF I were to buy an AK, I would buy a wasr-10 from a show or shop. I could play with it first and see how it felt. I never expect one to be a target gun, so I only care if the rounds come out the front every time I pull the trigger on one. So, WASR-10/63 or simple WASR-10 for economy.

I have a WASR-10 that I purchased back in September. After about 2000 rounds of Milsurp, Steel and Brass, I have literally have not had ONE malfunction, not even a burp, nothing.

The wood looks pretty crappy (you can refinish it to look great!), the metal itself has extensive tooling marks and casting marks that were left untouched and parkerized over. The front sight has some light pitting from what looks like a bad casting. I have slight mag wobble, but it really isn't that big of a deal.

Cheap? Yes. Low End? Yes. Is it my favorite and most fun gun to date? Yes, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Some people who buy AKs are very finicky about great coatings, milled receivers, and impeccable furniture, but, IMO, that isn't the idea of the AK. It is a gun designed to go bang, be simple, and be quick and cheap to produce. It is a HOOT at the range. If you want a synthetic, very nice, very accurate rifle, go with an AR, those are pretty great too.

Price wise the WASR is cheap-- some are done by CIA monkeys and are of questionable quality. I would never buy sight unseen, but you can get good values if you get to inspect them first. I bought mine on GB from a guy not too far from me. He let me come look at it, and even got to fire a mag off before buying (which is rare). Mine has a good magwell and the sights are not canted-- I get about 1/2 pie plate (or less on a bench) at 100 yards. SInce I bought this as a pig gun, it works like a champ. I get it dirty, and like any AK, it keeps going.

I would like to get an Arsenal or Bulgy someday-- or more so a Norinco Mak 90-- but when I got mine (last summer) my WASR was $400 NIB (minus my firing inspection) w/accessories and 3 mags OTD- -oh an 100 rounds also--

You would be hard pressed to get that deal today.

:)

My WASR-10 has straight sights and no mag wobble. Headshots on silhouettes at 100 yards are easy.

If you can look at it before you buy it, you can choose one that will be good.

Just wondering why you needed 3 threads about AK's though. Everyone's basically going to tell you the same thing. They work. All of them. Some are just prettier.

Exactly. Precisely. A blunt reliable instrument. Pick a good one and you are good to go.

Ask me again and I'll tell you the same.

I have a WASR 10/63 it has run fine for me. That said I can look at it and tell it is a cheap made gun, but a cheap made gun that goes bang every time I pull the trigger. It is an AK, I didn't expect great accuracy and I didn't get it, I did expect it to be fairly reliable and it is.

The WASR's are fine if you don't expect a $500 gun to preform like a $1,000 gun.

I would imagine a SAIGA is a better firearm for sure, but it varies a little further from the traditional AK design and costs a bit more.

A Hint if your getting a WASR: As of 2008 there are GP WASR-10/63 rifle's that are being made from demilled military rifles. Look for a triangle with arrow (some only have a triangle) on the front trunnion. Quality is much better with these.
