Woman accidentally shot with AK-47

Three friends who were goofing around in an apartment with a loaded AK-47 Wednesday night are now in trouble with the law after the assault rifle discharged, seriously wounding another friend.

The injured friend, 18-year-old Preanna Grant, was in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital late Wednesday. She was struck in the buttocks by the bullet, Atlanta police said.

The three friends, including Grant's boyfriend, were in her second floor apartment at the Gateway Apartments on Northside Drive posing with two AK-47s, said Officer Ronald Campbell.

Authorities do not yet know what caused the rifle to discharge once. No other bullet was fired.

The AK-47 is the most widely used assault rifle.

"It's considered a weapon of mass destruction," Campbell said. "It's known to go through a few walls."

The boyfriend, 18-year-old Wallace Thomas, has been charged with assault and battery. The charges, Campbell said, could be upgraded if Grant's condition worsens.

The other two friends – Darryl Tiller, 21, and Michael Brown, 19 – were charged with obstruction of justice for hindering police investigation.

Police do not know which of the three men owned the guns.

It is not illegal for some people to possess the rifles, Campbell said. It's just not too wise to pose with them when they are loaded.

WOMD?!?! Good night, I own a WOMD?!?!?!

What a media "w@%*e"!

And why charged with assault and battery? That seems to require "intent", not accident.

They found thousands, if not millions of those things in Iraq.

Um,, I think we bought more than a few of these weapons and handed them over to the Iraqis for not only their military, but their Sunni militias' as well...

:uhoh:

"It's considered a weapon of mass destruction," Campbell said. "It's known to go through a few walls."
Either he is incredibly stupid or politically motivated. (And people wonder why I would balk at handing my loaded weapon to a cop!!)

I would assume that the owners of the rifles were gangbangers???? Thats how I would take it after reading the article
"The three friends, including Grant's boyfriend, were in her second floor apartment at the Gateway Apartments on Northside Drive posing with two AK-47s, said Officer Ronald Campbell.'
:scrutiny:

The only way they could charge them with assault and battery is if the woman wanted to press charges as such. Most likely, this was a ND, and the moron should be treated as such.

The Officer was way out of line with that comment, and should probably learn how to do his job without politicizing. Then again, maybe the press screwed it up on purpose. That's the problem nowadays. The press in most areas is so corrupt that you can't tell who exactly is lying.

WMD??? OH MY GOD!!! BUSH WASN'T LYING!!!

Authorities do not yet know what caused the rifle to discharge once.

If I may venture a wild guess... I'm not entirely sure, but I think, someone might have pulled the trigger, maybe??? :banghead:

This guy is a ham no doubt.

I've known several LEO's and they have no problem with the firearms that I have, including the dreaded --> Kalashnikov... <-- insert creepy music and spirits moaning sounds...

One has to wonder which ones were the bigger idiots. The ones playing with a loaded assault rifle, or the cop who can't tell the difference between a rifle and a nuclear missle.

The teens' behavior was stupid, but this was an accident. The only person who was hurt was one of the teens. Why are the filing charges?

Considering where the victim was shot, are you sure that that "mass destruction" wasn't a misquote?

:swear: I came in here to say that!

What an asinine remark.:p

LOL, GTSteve03 , LOL !

(I'm feeling Low Road this AM. Gotta get some coffee!)

On weekends, Officer Campbell must have a gig moonlighting as a super hero:

Indoors that rifle must have made one heck of a crack. They should consider themselves lucky iy wasn't full-auto. That could have really rectum. This kind of hanus accident is going to give us all a bad name. Butt at least she was wise enough not to turn the other cheek. In retrospect though, I'm sure she's happier to be shot with a KalASShnikov than with a Bushmaster.

;)

I bet she's finally had it with her boyfriend and his premature detonation.

I wonder if they were posing for pictures with the firearms. If any photos of this incident exist, I bet they could answer the question pertaining to how the firearm discharged.

Is that a finger on the trigger of a loaded weapon that I see?

Or perhaps in the process of viewing a video of the incident we would hear one person say to the other, "Don't worry, man. The magazine isn't loaded." Never mind what's in the chamber.

Whatever the case, negligence is almost surely to blame.
