I was wondering how many of you have had experience with AK74 in select fire. I was comparing the recoil and other issues between Ak74 and M4 and to be honest I think I prefer Ak74.

Shoots about the same but no jams at all. Range wise there are about the same and equally effective on peneteration.

The newer Russian infantary rifle AN94 is even better with 2 burst option. The second bullet is fired at 1800/min rate meaning if you are a good shot the second bullet will hit where the first one did. This will break and pierce any armor.

Since AN94's limited availability in the market, I am thinking of making AK74 fire 2-burst...will it yield the same efficiency as AN94?

You are kidding, right?

What you suggest puts you square in the middle of the NFA. 10 years in prison is a long time.

I don't think Firepower is from the USA... I think he is from Pakistan.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a select fire AK-74, but I am buying a semi-auto one in a few days. I have other AKs in 5.56 and 7.62x39 and I prefer them to ARs.

My unit has a couple East German MPiK-74s (or wharever they called their version) in the arms room, and with the muzzle brake/comp on the end, they do handle pretty nicely.

Penetration of barrier materials between green tip 5.56mm and steel core 5.45x39 is about a wash, from what I've seen.

M4 has better ergonomics. 74 has better minimal-to-zero care reliability.

I'd feel well armed with either weapon, but prefer the M4.

While it is a good idea, I think it would be hard to make an AK-74 fire a 2 round burst with the same effectiveness as an AN-94. As mentioned before, the AN-94 fires two rounds at 1800 rpm it would most likely be very difficult to rig up an AK-74 to fire at 1800 rpm, 2 round burst or not.

Although I'd imagine it would be possible to get an AK-74 up to about 1000-1200 rpm if you know what you're doing.

When are we gonna realize that this forum serves the world and not everyone falls under the same laws?

If it has a decent G2 trigger, most semi-auto AK74s can be burp fired from the shoulder. Yes, not from the hip like a 7.62 x 39 AK... you can tear off full auto from the shoulder with good accuracy. :uhoh:

I've ripped off a 20 round burst (it was like a buzz saw) so a 2 or 3 round burst is very easy to pull off.

5.45 x 39 with a 2 round burst gets a thumbs up. Very light recoil and you can maintain accuracy. :)
