I've been checking around to buy some "brass", Boxer primed AK brass, and I'm getting confused. I see a lot of the cases listed as Yugo and Egyption "brass" cases, but I thought these were brass coated steel. To MY limited knowledge on the subject, ALL the foreign stuff is steel case, Berdan primed. What's the story?...:banghead:

There is a fair amount of 'brass" cased composition ammo with usually Berdan primed casings. You can with difficulty reload it. Some of it is also corrosive so be aware of that also. US made and some other foreign made ammo will have boxer primed casings. Usually they will state it is reloadable as that is a plus for sales as they usually cost more than their Berdan primed counterparts. Until recently it was not worth the bother to reload that round due to cost but with shortages things are different. I know PPU brass is reloadable as is the Wolf Gold and S&B. There are other foreign makers I am unsure of.

BOXER primed is the key. I reload that round with these headstamps: Winchester, Remington, S & B, Fiocchi, and PPU. I believe only Winchester made both large and small rifle primed brass so watch for that. None of the foreign military brass is boxer primed that I've ever seen.
