AK handgaurd rail replacement questions

I was setting here thinking about how i'd like to have a Romanian AK Draco pistol. Then I thought "humm its neat but I bet that thing is a pain to aim but hey it'd be sweet with a set of cheap rails on the front and a laser.

I poked about online a bit and I don't see anything about rails that would work specifically on the pistol one, but I'm wondering if the wood is the same size of the standard WASR Romanian AK rifles.

Anyone out there know?

I think they're just a standard AK handguard.

The standard romanian AKM handguards would work. A mlot of people are using these on it.

I looked at the article, looks like the same thing they used in it only his was tan, not really my thing i'd stick with black version.

Those are nice but they aren't exactly what I had in mind when I said cheap rails at 125 bucks, but I guess ya get what you pay for. That being said I got the el-cheapo UTG rails for my regular AK and while they are bulky they do seem to get the job done for me.

I could try them on the pistol version since they seem to use standard Romanian hand guards and then decide whether or not to buy a nice set and which gun to put them on.

Oh and while i'm looking at this am I the only one thinking the Draco would make a nice SBR with a bull pup kit?

Hold that Draco up to your shoulder and see where the muzzle is. I don't know about you, but I'd imagine it'd burn up your eyebrows pretty quick.

All standard AKM pattern handguards fit. Some may require minor fitting. A hammer and set of files should be in every AK owner's tool box. Just remember that adding a forward vertical grip turns the Draco into an AOW and requires the proper Tax Stamp from the BATFE.

Yeah I was thinking about that fore grip would make it an AOW. I wonder since I already have a fore grip on my other AK if I'd be stepping in the "constructive possession" cow patty even if I didn't put it on the Draco, heck I have wondered that since I bought a normal pistol that has a rail under the front.

Oh and Hizzie, can you get the cleaning rod in and out of your weapon with the flashlight mounted on it?

Yes I can but it is a PITA. I got it on GB from MFI. It is only a temp solution to my lighting problem. I'm looking for a good railed handguard and I am not sold on the MI rails yet. It seems as though Falcon Industries (ERGO Grip) makes or made a tri-rail handguard for the AKM platform.

Creating an AOW is the $200 stamp. It is only $5.00 to transfer one once it is made though.
