Not really sure where to put this question?. I am trying here as figured more AK/AR related folks here.??
Technically it is a "pistol"

I want a pistol with a "brace" a SB folding brace.

Really like the Galil Ace but it is pricey and heavy. The fit and finish seem top rate.

Aside from that, I can not decided between 5.56 and 7.62. The Ace is a AK platform so 7.62 seems appropriate but not sure of the blast and recoil vs the 5.56.
I have ARs and AKs. I can reload 556 but would rather not, So the 7.62 cheap steel ammo is an option and I don't have to pick up brass!

Then I was thinking of going with a less expensive pistol, buying an adapter and installing a SB brace but is it worth the effort??

Any suggestions to help me down the long and winding road?:)

Thanks

Installing the brace isn't difficult. Don't let it having one or not having one on it new, be your determining factor in what you want. Buy the gun you want, and install the accessories you want. A brace is simply an accessory to a pistol.

I'm considering doing the same with an M92 PAP and a folding shockwave blade. 7.62x39 performs much better out of a short barrel than 5.56

A build like this can be done for under $1000 or so.

There in is my dilemma:)

With so many AK pistols out there which one?? I can find lots on line but not many locally to really compare.

How difficult is it to drill the back end trunion to install a adapter and then put on the brace? How hard is the metal
I have good tools and mechanically included but do not have a drill press to drill , then tap if needed?

Years ago I put a brace on my M92 PAP AK pistol, it was enough to make me want to pay the $200 bribe to make it a Short Barrel Rifle. Well worth it in my opinion. I went through several configurations including a krink folding stock, AR stock, etc. until I settled on this as my preference. Since the picture I've put an optic on it. They make adjustable gas pistons for the AK now too if you want to do some suppressed shooting.

Edit: I had the flat rear trunnion replaced with a standard AK trunnion. Decent amount of work but I love it now.

I was about to ask you how that stock was attached before you mentioned replacing the trunnion. That is one seriously nice looking SBR you've got there. Is it a NATO or Warsaw length stock?

Thanks. NATO length because I have longer arms. Part of the reason I got rid of the krink stock because as cool as it looked it wasn't comfortable for me to shoot. I had originally bought an aftermarket fore end but decided to have the original one stained to match the coating/stock.

Edit: The ALG trigger is a must. Super nice. :)

Which is why I like the Gallie Ace, With the SB folding brace it is essentially a SBR to me. I have short Rex arms.:)

I bought a Sig PM400 5.56 pistol with brace and added a Hardened Arms 7.62x39 upper. Works great and I have a pistol with brace in two popular calibers ! If you want a folding brace but I'm sure you could piece that together as long as you started with a AR or AK pistol lower.

Now I am looking at a CZ Bren and adding a brace. Maybe some year I will decide!!

So many to choice from so little money!:)

I used to have an M92 PAP with the SB47 brace. It felt really goofy to shoot. I never really got used to it, and my accuracy with the short sight radius on it left something to be desired. I sold it to finance my AR pistol build with KAK blade. I could not be happier with it.
