AK Purchase

Hello Folks,

This is a big deal to me. If I have recently beat this subject to death, I apologize.

Any day now my paycheck should arrive. I will purchase a new AK. I have $600 dollars to spend. NO MORE no less. I am heavily leaning towards one of the "Polamanin" franken rifles.

My question. For the money ($600 otd). Is there any other better, more desirable AK variant currently for sale? From what I can ascertain, the "Pole" mix Romak would run otd $585-590 otd from Classic. Atlantic has an Interarms "Maadi" for $599 + SH + ffl.

I have a little money, but like I have stated, that money is very tight.

Arsenal is way out of the $$ equation. What I am asking of you guys; If you had $600 to spend on an AK type this weekend...what would you purchase???

Thanks much, and I really do appreciate your answers...
That Pole should be your victim if you're serious.

meanmrmustard...I tend to agree with you. Thanks for your posts.

Man, this really chaffs my ass. Today, apparantly, Classic pulled down their add on the Pole Franken rifle. Atlantic still is selling theirs, as is Centerfire.

Jeez guys...did it really hurt your bottomline to sell this rifle for $549, as advertised? As oppossed to $589 or $599??

Do what you say that you are going to do!!! OK??? If you can not do that, then get out of business.

I personally, would like to know that who I am ordering from has some sort of reliability.

Whatever....

Romanians are a dime a dozen, not all suck. It's hit or miss though on the quality. I looked at a Cugir last night, crappy stock and gunky. My LGS I think is just the owners hobby, he doesn't haggle and if he doesn't make a sale, then oh well. I offered him $475 for it (needs cleaned something fierce and could use a stock refinish) and he laughed at me. Literally laughed! It's a dad gum Romanian AKM that looked like it had seen Mogadishu, and he thought I was telling jokes. He wanted $529, before tax. Things have gotten out of hand.

Okie gunner, I like your choice in rifles. So, if me being you and you being me, I would not spend ALL your coin with money being tight. I've heard good things about Atlantic, I'd use them if possible. My suggestion, if you want it, is to get a Saiga IZ132 or 332. Shoot it in sporter config for a while, save to do a conversion on it at a later date. Either I've suggested is well below your max and Saiga is a damn fine rifle. Try and stop one, I dare ya. I've blasted through hundreds of rounds of Tula crap steel cased ammo with bone dry internals. Nothing beaten, warped, superheated, damaged, nothing. They're chrome lined if you're into that line of thinking, and not bad at all accuracy wise. So, me being you with $600 for AK lovin, I'd be ordering the Saiga.

Atlantic emailed me. Advised for me to hold off right now on the Polemanian. I will wait on the availabilty of the IAC for my AK-47 purchase.

However, I will purchase either the M&M M-10 or the Waffen Werks AK-74 from them. As of 7/13/2012 they are sold out. They are getting a new shipment in either 7/14/2012 or the first part of next week. I will email them tommorrow morning to see what, if any have arrived.

I have decided to also purchase the "slide fire" along with this AK-74 purchase.

I will keep you guys posted.

Slide fire and a '74? Sounds like a party Okiegunner.

Between the M-10 and Waffen Werks I'd personally take the Waffen Werks. They've been making those '74s for quite a while now and have a great reputation for quality work.

I'm trying to purchase a Waffen Werks poly 74' from them right now. I sent an email today inquiring about their forum member discount but haven't heard back yet.

After doing a good bit of looking around it seemed to me that they were offering the highest quality for the money. Build quality is reported to be on par with Arsenal, and they use a Gunkote finish which is superior to the Arsenal painted on finish of the parkerizing of many of the lower end guns. It sounds like a great deal for being $150 cheaper than a basic Arsenal.

Deffinitely should check out Atlantic for that price range but for $600 I'd go with the M10. Why not just save a couple for months and do it right and get an Arsenal SGL?

I just got off the phone with Blaine from Atlantic. (well about an hour ago) He just happened to be in the office, as they are closed today. Late yesterday afternoon, they recieved a new shipment of the Waffen Werks AK-74s.

This is just another non -expert opinion (there's lots of other members who know much more about aks than I do) so here goes:

With a $600 budget and money being tight, I would take a close look at classic arms $599 shooters package with the synthetic romanian wasr that they have on sale right now. You get the extra mags, the soft case, and the sling (and some other stuff ) for a price in your budget. I think the other guns from poland are gonna cost more, be out of your budget, and won't be significantly better than the romanian, or at least the romanian will do just as well as the polish guns, just a bit rougher. If you want to really step up from the romanian wasr, I think you're going to have to get a converted saiga, or get an arsenal, which are both more expensive. I think atlantic has the converted saiga for around $750 or so, the arsenals are more expensive converted saigas..

For $600, the romanian wasr will do everything you need from an ak, and you'll still be able to afford ammo!
I guess the 74's are less expensive, so I see why you're looking at those.

That's very good to hear, as I hoping my name will soon be on one of those 74's. I was kind of surprised that I did not receive a reply from they yesterday, as the other day had sent an email inquiring about the furniture color at 9 PM, and received a reply not 10 mins after.

Auto our office get approx 400 emails daily & we process them in batches , the Waffens can be either balck or plum they send us what ever they have and we are just happy to get them not real picky on the color.

I completely understand the email overload. I am very pleased to report that I received my reply today, well out of normal business operation hours. I also just placed my order for one of the Waffen Werks Poly 74's because of it. Great customer service all around.

May I ask what color the furniture is on the latest batch of WW 74's?

Do u have any gunshows coming up? A few months back I advised a friend to buy a WASR via a private sale for $480 dollars at a local Atlanta show. All other AKs were selling for at least $550 dollars. It's a very good shooting rifle. My friend is a dentist who caught the shooting bug late in life.

wait what does thr promo code do i havn't been here long so dont know much

Atlantic Firearms offers discounts on non-sale priced items to members of select forums, like THR. The discount varies based on the item you plan on purchasing.
