Just purchased my first Ak recently, 7.62, and am looking to get another one soon.

I got myself a MAADI from InterArms, poly, and recently did a semi-decent review for it.

I'm looking to get a 74 (cheaper ammo) and am looking at the InterArms AK74 model.. basically a 74 clone of the one I just got.

However I've noticed several Arsenal 74's... Now, is an arsenal really worth that much extra, money is not a problem for me at all, but i still like to get the most for my $. To me an arsenal just seems like tricked out stocks, rails, etc. but not really anything else. I want an Ak. reliabiltiy is what im after, not prettiness.

There are so many types of Ak's, i dont even know what to get. I'm ecstatic with my MAADI, 600 rounds in 1.5 hrs and not one FTF. I've seen tantals, Koraynovich (again, koraynovich just seems like a collectors piece, not a warfighting weapon), CAI 74's, and interarms... What are the most common 74's that are reliable, etc. I'm not looking for accuracy, ffs its an AK. I just want a gun that will keep on shooting longer than I will:)

An arsenal is built off a saiga platform....

If you skip the middle man, buy a new saiga you or a smith can do the conversion and you can make it plain and simple. Tapco even makes a wooden stock for it so you can have the traditional look and feel.

And, it is after all the AK's that the Russian military uses.

Thats my recommendation.

And, you can count me among the ranks that money is an issue for (A BIG ISSUE) so this is also cost effective. About $550 will get you a new AK74, completely converted. More if you have a smith do it of course.

No sir.

Arsenal has been selling Bulgarian-made 5.45x39 AKs for over 5 years. Those sales continue to this day.

Arsenal., Inc is the US sales outlet for Arsenal of Bulgaria, you see.

They have only recently started offering Saiga based firearms.

I own / have owned four or five different AK-74's. (Not counting AK-47s) The best one I have owned is a tie between the second SGL-31 I bought and the Saiga 5.45. The Saiga 5.45 is the best buy, and frankly if you put a nice scope mount on it and a decent optic or nice russian scope, you can have a real nice rifle even unconverted. I really liked mine and had no problems hitting rabbit sized stuff at 100- 150 yards in field positions. It was a great truck rifle. Now the Arsenal SGL-31 I have is my second. The first SGL-31 I got rid of because the front sight wasn't quite vertical and it was a 4 moa rifle. This new one is straight, and accurate. 2 moa or better putting it in the same accuracy realm as the bone stock saiga. I say if you want the authentic military look go with the Arsenal (or find and Arsenal SLR105-A1R if you can). But if you want an excellent truck rifle go wth the Saiga carbine. I don't know if there are any new 5.45's coming in.

i think the arsenal is worth the extra money. if you get a cheap 74 it will not have a chrome lined barrel. i like chrome in a AK. you dont have to clean it as much.......and if you are going to buy surplus 5.45 ammo it will be corrosive.
