The safety pictured doesnt work like you might think, it works in reverse. You have to pull it back with your left thumb to take the safety off. Think about how thats going to work for a minute and try the motion with your gun. I think you'll see what I mean.
I'm a righty and use the middle finger of my right hand 99% of the time to take the safety off. I dont have big hands and its done very easily and quickly with your hand on the grip. You can also use the thumb method just as easy, and you can actually get the AK's safety off easier and faster than the AR's if you have the rifle cradled in your arms when you start. (The middle finger works the same way with the mag release and most all my AK's mags drop free without help too.)
Most of the AK "add on's" are unnecessary and actually dangerous if you look at them and think them out. All the ones that add the protrusions tend to tear up your hands and catch on your gear. You really gain nothing from them and with just a little practice, you can accomplish the same thing with the stock parts without the associated problems of the aftermarket parts. In fact, 99.9% of the AK complaints go away if you take the time to practice with it and learn how to work it. Most of its problems occur with the added US parts.
If I was to add anything to any AK, it would be the Ultimak forward mount. It, and a good red dot sight, bring the AK's into the 21's century and into line with any of the other rifles for effective combat shooting in any light or condition.
