No, your right, err, correct. 
The safety in the pic is a modified safety with a thumb lever on the left side. I seemed to have missed the lefty part until after I posted. The problem still exists with that set up though for right handers. Where you would think the motion would be forward on the "thumb" lever, its not, its to the rear to get the safety off. The way I've seen them set up, they poke through the bottom of the receiver and not the side. If it was through the side and rotated 90* forward, it would work like AR users are accustomed, but then again, it would be to far away for an easy reach.
