I got my son some stripper clips for his AK off of Ebay. I noticed that the bullets are awful loose in them . Are they always this loose? The stripper clips for his AR fit the bullets pretty tight. I also find it kindda hard to load a mag using these anyway. Are all strpper clips of the same quality? Thnaks Tim

did you get the 7.62x39 stripper clips? if you did then they are most likely meant for the sks which has a guide for stripper clips milled into the bolt. they aren't really meant for loading ak mags without a special chinese adapter that fits over the mag, but i've heard it is flimsy and does not work well.

for ak mags a LULA(sp?) would be a better choice.

here's the chinese adapter for using the strippers with the AK mags:

here's the LULA, this one is for the AR15 but they make one for AK mags too

Tim,

I have to concur with eatatjoes that the best method for loading AK mags is the LULA. I just got mine yesterday and all I can say is WOW. Not only does it make loading much easier, it makes unloading the mags easy as well. It's easily worth the $20 - $25 for one.

I've used the AK mag stripper clip guides, and frankly, they stink. For whatever reason, they don't work nearly as well as M-16 strippers and guides.

Thanks Eatatjoes & Dave. Yes I did get the chinese adapter for the AK mags. As far as I know these are 7.62 x 39 stripper clips. At least they were advertised as such on ebat. I just noticed that the fit of the bullets in the stripper clip is rather sloppy. Does the LULA load a mag as fast as a stripper clip? When I load an AR mag with a stripper clip, 10 rounds go in real fast.

I, personally, have had very good results with cheap Chinese stripper clips and the Chinese mag loader. Having both an SKS and an AK, I like the interchangeability.

I, too have had good experiences with AK stripper clips and the Chinese guide. I find them easier to use and more reuseable than AR stripper clips.

re: sloppy bullet fit.

i noticed this too, since my sks is my bug-out/SHTF rifle i have a 300 round vest that i'd take with me. wearing it around the basement for a while after i first got it i noticed the last one or two rounds on almost every stripper clip would fall off and into the bottom of the pocket. i tried bending the arms a little and ended up ruining a few clips before realizing this isn't the way to go.

what i did instead was wrap a little electrical/duct tape around the base of the clip that sat downwards. it prevents the rounds from falling out due to movement but you have to remember to orient them correctly when inserting them into the rifle.

I have a couple of both the Lula's and the Chinese stripper guides. The Lula is better for everything but speed. The Chinese guide is faster once you get the knack down. While it does work something like the AR guides, it doesnt work as well. Mine seem to work the best with the rear tight against the mag and once they go, you cant hesitate with your "stroke" or it all comes apart and stops. Like I said, once you get the knack down they work pretty good. A little judicious squeezing with a pair of pliers at the ends can solve the bullet falling out problem and not interfere with reliability, but you have to take it easy.

Speaking of stripper clips... where can I find clips for my MN 91/30? I love it but hate feeding Wolf ammunition in round by round when I am shooting more for fun than accuracy (when I'm going for accuracy, I tend to load one, shoot one, load one, etc.)

EDIT: Also, I would love to be able to reuse the clips, and have the rounds fit tightly so there aren't problems with the rounds falling out even if I'm running. :D

Nature of the beast, AK/SKS strippers fit pretty loose and with a lot of handling the end bullet will usually fall out.

My Mag loader worked like hell at first. Took some fine sandpaper to the inside rails and to the outsides of the strippers. Some were pretty rough.

It takes a little to get used to, and practice where to exert pressure in just the right spot on the top bullet to get them to ZIP right into the mag. Pretty used to doing it now and only have a hang up every once in a while.

I know what you mean eatatjoes. the bullets keep falling out of the stripper clips.
The real problem seems to be that the bullets are so loose that when you're pushing them into the mag they get cocked then you pause your stroke like what AK103K said.
I guess I'll just keep on practicing

make sure to push at the very base of the cartridge when using them(ride your thumb along the stripper clip), and try to do it in one fell swoop.

you'll get the hang of it eventually.
