Just picked up some Mosin Nagant stripper clips today. I was shocked to find that they barely fit in the gun (very tight) and won`t feed even a single round into the magazine! The rounds lock up in the clip and if pushed hard enough will actually pop out of the clip before they`ll feed! I`ve used a variety of other stripper clips (in other guns) and have always found them to be handy little buggers...until now. Has anyone else tried them and had the same problem? These clips appear to be new and were pretty cheap (20/$10),is it possible that they`re cheap copies or something? Marcus

I bought some at a gun show and although I do need to push a little the rounds still go in the magazine. I have heard where people had to alter the strippers to get them to work properly. Try them in a different mosin nagant.

The Chinese M44 clips I have (silver in colour - steel, aluminium?), are useless as stripper clips for my M44 and I only use them as ammo holders or half assed SKS mag speed loaders.....

Your best bet would be to find some military clips. I have tried several different kinds (Tapco, and gunshows) that just did not work, period. Just about the time they were loosened up enough to strip into the magazine, they were TOO loose and usually popped out before insertion.

Good Luck!

We gave up -- three different types of clips don't work well enough with M44 nd M91 Mosins to use them. Military clips worked better than aftermarket but neither were adequate for use.

Here is the determination from a duly licensed engineer.
I use the same stripper clips to load my M44 as my 1891 model.
They work pretty good in the M44 and very poorly in the 1891.
The 1891 bridge notch where the stripper goes in is more narrow than that of the M44. Go figure. I plan on taking a dremel with cutting disc to the 1891 and doing some cold blue.
Heck, I only gave $60 for it!

The tapco stripper clips are pretty much junk. When I go to a gun show, I look for stripper clips with the Izhevsk stamping (an arrow inside a triangle) on the bottom of the clip. These are original Russian stripper clips and work great in all my rifles. I got lucky at the Wichita show earlier this month and found a guy selling them for a quarter a piece. I also picked up a case of his Russian copper washed 7.62x54 on stripper clips for $38. At the going price for stripper clips, I got that ammo for free!

Out of sheer desparation I bought some off of Ebay. IIRC, it was 20 clips for right at $10 and work pretty well in both my M-39 Finn and my M-38 Russian. Of course, caveat emptor.

I`m starting to get the picture now. Looks like I got cheap repro clips (silver in color, look brand new and packed in a new modern box). I should have known better, another table at the show had much older looking clips wrapped in plastic and grease (cosmoline?) for $1.25ea. I`ll bet they were original Russian. In the mean time I`m almost certain the stripper grooves in my rifle are too narrow, the squeeze the already tight clips even tighter so the rounds don`t have a chance of feeding. Looks like I`ll have to massage them a little. :) Marcus

Marcus, I wouldn't mess with the rifle until you get some of the correct clips. Then if there is still a problem, do some careful work on the guide.
