I am about to finish my ak 47 and I was wondering if I should get a new furniture set with a front "tommy gun vertical grip" or not. Pros and cons of the vertical grip. Any input is welcome.

Or should I just get a regular stock set?

I will probally get a kvar set.

My gun is a sar 1.

This is theory only:

I believe the front vert grip is for better control in FULL AUTO, so the benefit on a semi, would be minimal.

If YOU like the looks or feel of them go for it, if not dont

Personally I think they look cheesy, but as I have a mucked up elbow joint, I am considering one for my FAL, to better be able to control the recoil with a solid front grip.

Having played with one once (Tam's.. I think it was a Polytech?) ... I wouldn't. Even canted forward, the foregrip gets in the way of rocking an empty mag out.

For squared-up type shooting such as you'd use a foregrip for, the mag itself works great.

I got one for my WASR - and took it back off pretty quickly. Besides getting in the way of mag changes, I didn't like how far forward it forced my support hand. Just didn't feel comfortable.

My AMD 63 came with one. They must've used shorter than 30 round mags as until I took a horse shoe rasp and really trimmed back ALOT, they would not rock out properly. Using a mag to knock out a mag technique (ie: speedload) they still don't work! I like the AMD 63 though, but I am gonna put a railed lower hand grip on it to match the Ultimak upper;)

I don't like them. While partially because I prefer the cleaner look of the traditional AK, I also found the vertical front grip on my AR to be very cumbersome. It's only good for shooting standing and in a tactical type position. In other shooting positions, it's uncomfortable.

My first M16A4 came with a vertical foregrip. I hated it. Made it hard to shoot in the prone using a rest. Same thing with the AK. I've got a romanian parts kit gun that I'd be willing to trade out the vertical foregrip from, if anyone would be interested.
