I recently bought an ak 47 with two 30 round mags and a 40 round mag. The 30 round mags I have no problem with, but the 40 wont properly feed rouds. I have checked to insure the mag is properly seated but I get one round to chamber, and then a jam. One round and a jam. Anybody else had this problem?

I've never had a problem with the 7.62x39mm Chinese (Norinco) 40 round magazines, the 7.62x39mm East German 40 round magazines and the 5.45x39mm Soviet 45 round magazines.

I did have problems with the 7.62x39mm ProMag 40 round magazines.

40 rounders tend to be problematic from what i understand, if you want hgher capacity go with a drum
The Soviets/Warsaw Pact dumped the 75 round drum magazines due to it's unreliability/weight/noise/bulk and replaced them with 40 round box magazines.
The unreliability/weight/noise/bulk of the drum magazine is also the reason why no 5.45x39mm drum magazines were ever produced (beyond prototypes) and the RPK-74/RPK-74M is issued with 45 round box magazines.

I've seen a damaged commie 40 round mag FTF. The dent locked up the follower so you couldn't load it either.

hey there, I've had one of my 40 rounders that had the same problem, I took the mag apart and filed down the follower a bit because it would catch on the inside of the mag causing jams, When I filed it down a bit it never touched the inside of the mag and it's been flawless since, took me all of five minutes, might work for you.

I've seen that several times in surplus 30 round mags. Easy to fix, the socket wrench end of a Craftsman 1/2 drive extension is just the right diameter to "iron" out the dents. Drive it through where the dent is a few times with a mallet, and problem solved.

The commercial (bullets images molded in on the sides) 40 round plastic Bulgarian mags are generally not very good. ProMag AK mags are flat out garbage (as is about every mag they make) the Tapco mags are marginal, they work in some of my AKs and give bolt over base failures in others.
