Until now, I haven't experienced a problem with the reliability of my AK-47. One mag, that I recently obtained, fails to feed the last round into the rifle. I'm wondering what would cause this and if it could be remedied.

All AK mags are different (even though they are the same).

If this is a milsurp mag, it may have had a harsh usage.

If a consumer new AK mag, the spring may be 'consumer grade' and not up to the task.

Bottom line is, it's probably the spring.

AK mag design has a reinforced feed lip section - take the mag apart, and check for obstructions. Rust and dirt can build up there, preventing the follower from travelling to the top.

This is a used East German 30 rounder. Since I took the mag apart and cleaned it(not noticing any obstructions) before using it, I'm guessing it is probably the spring then. Any suggestions on where to get a good spring for this mag?

I believe they have solved your mag problem, the spring. Try streacking the spring out to give it more power before you buy a new one.

The Arsenal polymer Waffle mags are great, get one.

I have not had issues necessarily with the East German mags, but I have noticed they often will only hold 29 or the last round is held very loose. I agree on the spring. I have have to get a few of those myself.

I have some AK mags that misfeed the last round when I'm indulging in rapid-fire fun. It's either a yugo or romanian, but I've switched springs and followers and it clears up. Get some new springs.

Once a spring has failed from metal fatigue, stretching it back out won't make it reliable (taking it past its elastic limit does bad things to the metal, and doesn't cure the underlying metal fatigue). That may fix it for range use, but I wouldn't trust it for defensive purposes.

I'd get a new spring, or a new mag, personally.
