AK47 Accuracy

The current generation of "WASR-10" Kalashnikov-style rifle is about 4 MOA.

9/10 people will NEVER get that kind of accuracy out of a WASR. Most of the "top of the line AK's" will get 2-3" groups @ 100m with an exceptional shooter. Those kind of groups on irons are great given the weapon producing them.

my waSR could not counted on to hit anything past 50 yards, the mini 30 i had was better, but the chinese sks i have can outshoot both, and a lot of levers and milsurp bolts.
sold the wasr and mini 30

I got similar accuracy as I see posted regarding the WASR with the SAR-1 I used to have. Both were century AKs. Dunno if that is a connection.

However, I have been surprised by the accuracy of the Vector Polish underfolder that I have. It is one that has the chrome barrels. Granted, I've never put it to a real accuracy test in terms of benches, etc. But I've hit anything I've shot at with it-- including a deer from my portable stand this past season.

I never had enough confidence to consider my SAR-1 for deer hunting. My Vector, however is what I would prefer on a portable stand--where I take "brush-hunting" distance shots. It does what I would use a 30-30 for.

Why would anyone buy a stanard AK for accuracy. Who shoots Match Ammo out of a standard AK. They were designed to lay down heavy fire and put the fear of death in anyone you are shooting at. They are accurate enough to get the job done and they all do that very well, even the cheap AK's.

A good red dot sight is best on an AK, forward mounted Aimpoint or EOtech. I would never mount a scope on an AK it is not that kind of gun. The standard AK is more of a rapid fire close to medium range gun well suited for a red dot sight. I think AK's are Great, I love mum. There is nothing like shooting one until the barrel is Smoke-in.

I would mount a scope on a Super VEPR in 308 but it is not a standard AK.

I'll put it like this, the AK was made to be full auto first, semi second. When the red army comes over the hill firing thousands of rounds it does not matter how accurate each individual round is. That was the mindset of the design. Their designated rifleman was armed with a Dragunuv. If you consider the rifle in the context of it's design and intended purpose it is awesome, not so much so at a long range match.

First off they are AKSs not -47s.

Actually, if we are going to abbreviate it, the abbreviation should be simply "K," as "AK" stands for "Avtomat Kalashnikova" and what we are talking about clearly is not automatic.

if you want match type accuracy from an ak you need 2 things...handloads, and a crown thats been lapped by a pro.

Just get a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 and bayonet them from 100 yards away.

Ha! You made me spit soda all over my monitor...

But seriously, My AK hits the paper at 100 yards, and that's the best I can do with anything.

Supposedly Ruger has improved the Mini's. So their advertisements say. I had a Mini 30 for about 10 years and sold it. Was absolutely the worst rifle I ever owned so far as accuracy was concerned. Made a AK look like like a bench rest rifle (not quite but, you know what I mean).

trbon8r, the problem is ya can only get that effect while fireing in full auto and even then only on a cyclic rate reduced AKM it is coused by the recoil pulses colliding setting up a harmonics effect there is an entire thesis on it posted on akfiles.com so I'm not going to go onto the whole thing again ya can do a search there its about a page and a half long..... the effect is not possible on a semi auto or non rate reduced full auto

BTW, that video does not address why is it that skilled shooters can get much tighter groups from the very same rifle and when clamped into a shooting machine that very same rifle can shoot MOA groups.............. would it be barrel flexing only effects the rifles accuracy in the hands of mediocre skill level shooters perhaps but has no effect on accuracy in the hands of skilled shooters? I've ran a lil over a thousand AKs through the shops shooting machine over the years and with quality ammo it is very rare to find one that will not shoot under 2" when ya eliminate the human factor from the equasion
