I have a question for everyone, My buddie has an ak74 and its a really nice gun Its a single stack version but lately he has been having issues with it, When he first got it the ak would shoot fine (it came with 150 rounds when he bought it) when he ran out of that he ordered a bulk of ammo off ammunition to go its the 5.45x39 caliber but when the ammo got here the gun started acting weird it doesnt shoot like it used to half the time the ammo wont even fire, You can see the primer has been hit by the firing pin so idk if its the gun or the ammo, if you put the ammo in a second time it will shoot but usually not the first, it shot fine before, does the ammo have a really hard primer or the guns firing pen busted?

can anyone help? He wants to sell the gun because he thinks its broken but is it really the ammo or the firing pin?

edit: heres more info about the gun and ammo he bought

Its a Romanian ak74 and the ammo he bought is 1080rds - 5.45x39 Bulgarian Wasp 52gr. FMJ Ammo

We need more info. What is the type of ammo? Also, if your friend simply takes out the firing pin (it is held in by two punch pins in the bolt head) then he can tell if the firing pin is damaged.

Its hard to tell if the pin was damaged or not we looked at it before It shows some wear on it, how expensive is a new firing pin?

The Wasp shoots fine out of my WASR2. I'd start by cleaning/inspecting the firing pin. and surrounding areas (I really should study my nomenclature, shouldn't I?). You're obviously not getting a good primer strike. Could be grit, could be a damaged pin.
