Well I got a firm invite from MCGunner. Imagine his suprize when I actually show up!
Who the #%&* are you!

Excellent! I really hope you could make it down there. And maybe one day, he can make it up there. And I'll sit in Oklahoma and be perfectly content with my hunting paradise.

Can I take that as a another invite?
Man I got a full plate!
Better fire up the old Rockchucker!

Let me finish nursing school first then absolutely. But you better plan on a late December trip. Our ticks, chiggers, and mosquitos, are murder. And Texas has them every bit as bad as I'm sure MCGunner would attest to. It's the price we pay for good hunting and fishing. But I'm planning a trip to Alaska in the next couple of years. I HAVE to go there.

Ticks chiggers and mosquitoes. No black widows? No vampire bats?
Piece of cake.
I need a change of scenery anyway. Bring on your worst!

I was hog hunting all day with a day pack and lunch on a public WMA once. I sat down an an old corral and leaned back against a post for comfort and broke out lunch. Next day around my waist, WOW, the chigger infestation of the ages. Mama used to use Campho Phenique on 'em, don't think it did much, but made her happy. They eventually just go away and you learn to live with 'em.

Can't you just pick them off?

December? What?? Not even....they're usually long gone by October in Southern Oklahoma. I've never had an issue with ticks or chiggers that late in the year.

Then you are lucky. If it's not freezing, we have ticks and mosquitos till it does. And even then, if it warms up to upper 30's to low 40's, they're back. I've duck hunted when it was 36 degrees outside and had mosquitos flying around the boat. We never got rid of ticks up here this year. I have no reason to lie. Heck I wish they would go away. But those things are tough.

I'm not saying you're lying....but after 34 years of living in Oklahoma and being outside probably 30 of those years solid, I've never had a tick on me after September ends. Ever. Even with the nonexistent winter we had this year, I never got a tick on me when I was in the woods and I'm more south than you are.
The mosquitos are a different beast....those things are flying unless they're frozen.

Well I'm sure this thread will be closed before this December. But when October and December roll around this year, I'll gladly post a pic of ticks on me with time/date stamp to prove it. I don't know if it's the terrain or the fact we have lots of water around here. But brother we are INFESTED. Seed ticks, deer ticks, those ticks with white spots, dog ticks, you name it, we have them. I've been pulling ticks off me since February. It's bad enough that I spray with Deep Woods OFF and some other stuff that's 98% DEET up until it freezes for more than 3 days. And no lie, I still manage to get them on me.

It's Jim's fault. He's the farthest away. So I blame him. But maybe someone could post a picture of a hog shot with an AK to rerail the thread? If I have to, I'll google one and post it.

Well I dunno, who knows!! I do know this though....I bought some new stuff from Off and it works AMAZINGLY! It's called Tick Defense. It's in a red spray can. I sat on the ground, in the woods for several hours today and literally didn't find one single tick on me. Now, I will say that I did saturate myself with it, but regardless, it worked flawlessly. I would pay $20 a can for that stuff!

Mmm, well, another plus for Alaskan life. Still don't compensate for the temps, though. :D I'll just itch a little, better than frost bite. :D
Such a baby. Frost bite doesn't hurt till you thaw out.
Grizzly can be a problem though. But I can just shoot them. Can you shoot a chigger?
