"It may be "New" but it is still Mexico."

Spoken like a typical Texan. I've read/ heard more complaints about Texas gun laws lately than New Mexico. How's that Open Carry coming? It's legal in NM and AZ

I spent my LE career in New Mexico and yes consuming alcohol while in physical possession of a firearm is illegal.

I have no dog in this hunt, but so far I see nothing in this thread indicating that 'possession' of a gun while imbibing is illegal in NM...

Carrying concealed, yes...

'Possession', no...

Can you possibly give us chapter and verse for this law?

An event as described in post #24 did occur in central Florida a few months ago.

A deranged man got loaded up in camo with ammunition & weapons then stormed into a crowded bar. He yelled threats & waved a gun around. 3 patrons ran up & restrained the subject. The PD showed up & arrested the armed "Rambo".

In 2014, impaired & unstable subjects do things like this all the time.
Watch a few online videos of people on "bath salts" or new deadly drugs that make them wig out. It's not simple or easy to deal with. :uhoh:

I've spent a couple of hours researching our state laws and spoken to two sheriff's deputies, and all come to the conclusion that carrying concealed while consuming alcohol is illegal, yes. Mere possession of a firearm other than concealed, while consuming alcohol, while not smart, is not in of itself a crime. I can't find anything to the contrary.
