I'm using the large Alice pack loonwulf have me, it's on the big side but plenty of room. Like to see if anyone here is using one and how they have it setup.

For now I just have a 1 qt canteen on the side and use the straps to hold the wool blanket I use for cold days. The rubber for the top flap/map pocket was about gone, I used some flex seal and seems to worked just fine.

I'd like to pickup some other stuff that will attach to the pack or go in like. The 2qt canteen, the entrenching tool, think there some ammo carriers you can Alice clip on. There are some different liners and bags to.

Anyone ever pack out meat with theres, I figured it maybe easier to bone out a deer fare from the road since I am hunting a lot of state land.

I've used the medium? sized one with off body frame for camping for years. It ain't pretty, but for the $10 I paid for it, it's hard to beat.
I'd like to have the medium to go along with the large, probably better for most hunting use anyway. Like to get a newer molle to try as well.

I wish I knew people to camp with, and ny kinda sucks if your a camper. I can use the exercise as well lol.

You can haul a lot of gear in a large alice pack, but they are not the most comfortable things to wear for days on end. I picked up an Eberlestock J34 at the recommendation of H&Hhunter and really can't recommend anything else. I know... I'm being that guy.

It fits me very well, has a scabbard for my rifle built in and is very compact until you need to haul meat. I put an entire Nebraska whitetail doe, quartered out, in mine with no issues. And it carried like a dream. Very comfortable.

No, they are not cheap, but if I can save up for one, three kids and only one income, anyone can. But as they say, rock what you got. I did it for years with lesser packs and gear. But a good pack makes all the difference in the world.

If you're planning on quarteing the deer a large would be good. I used to use a large back in the day. Still have a medium without the frame.

The medium is just right for a 3 day/2 night trip. My camel back for right under it against my back, and I just tied the pouch with my tent in it to the frame under the pack.

The Alice pack is bigger than I need. I do have a couple of Gulf war era military surplus 3 day assault packs that I picked up cheap at gun shows. There are numerous versions of this, but the military issue versions are by far the best. And even they are too big for most of my uses.

I usually use one of the better commercial day packs. I like Osprey, but it really is personal preference.

The large alice fits me pretty well, I don't know how many others will fit me since I'm so large. The buckle does not fit so I took it off for now until I lengthen it.

A rifle scabbard would be very cool, I can fit my 16" ar-15 carbine in the Alice if broken down .

I just with I had the money for other packs.

I'd like to get out and do some camping, I'm big so makes that harder but the exercise is much needed. I never done much camping and don't know anyone that goes. I think I can camp at the state forest close to me but you can't remove anything and do what you need to make a camp. I'm not even sure if fires are allowed pit or not.

Ya it's much more then what I need but it's all I got. I was thinking of kiting it out and have a smaller day pack inside for all my hunting stuff.

If I recall you're a big guy. Many of the less expensive packs don't have straps long enough. I'm a stocky built 5'10" and 220 lbs. And I have to choose carefully. That is a big part of why I like either the military surplus or higher end packs.

I have not used an ALICE but I have used a helikon chest rig. They are nice for carrying things that you want handy and disperse weight well over the shoulders. I got it from a friend when I asked him about buying his ALICE pack. The triple mag pouches that attach to the molle loops are great for water bottles, apples, etc. Great for a day trip, even better for a day trip in a kayak.

ya I'm big, I cut off the straps off the Alice, one day I'll make them longer and reattach them.

Ya the mag pouches are nice, I think I can fit 4 10 round pmags in each. My head lamp and deer drag fit nice. The drain holes can be dun up to fit smaller things.

The large Alice does have the advantage of having a frame, as it better carries loads. (The Medium can be fit to the frame, too.)
The ALICE packs were just ok for military use. For my 2¢, it depends on what you want to hump through the woods. They are not very camelbak friendly, either.
Were they not so expensive, I'd really recommend a CFP-90. Those are internally braced, and have a camelbak pocket built in, and will accept a day pack if required.
But, I'm likely to be biased in this, too.

I have the ALICE Radiomans Pack which is slightly smaller than the medium Alice. I modified it to take MOLLE rucksack straps and kidney pad and it's 1000x better! For a holiday present one year a friend of mine had it sent off to Tactical Tailor to get a few more pouches added and got me a DEI 1606 frame for it. I find it large for the 50 yard walk from the house to the stand and for shorter hunting trips (I have a small daypack/bladderpack for that) but for public land hunting in cold weather or for extended stay hunts, it's PERFECT.

Look at the mods done by Tactical Tailor. I personally like the rounder shorter shape of the ALICE a lot more comfortable than the tall and narrow MOLLE and CFP90/Marine Corps packs.

1.) Don't get the large unless you're winter camping. It's WAYYYYYY too easy to fill that sucker up to the point you cant carry it.
2.) I camp ya goof. There's plenty of public land managed by the DEC/Forest Service you can wilderness/free camp on without a permit (for three days). Lemme know next time you want to go. Been looking for camping buddies. Maybe we can teach each other something.

I had a large Alice pack set up for a moose hunt, with an extra set of shoulder straps on the bag, and I could detach the frame and use it to pack meat out of needed. Thankfully, it was not needed. We drove my truck right up to Dad's bull, and pulled it to the road with my tow rope. I usually just use a 2 qt. canteen container for items I need on a day hunt at the farm; it also serves as my possibles bag for M/L hunting,

How did you have two shoulder straps on the pack. My straps are just long enough but is tight with all my hunting jackets on.

Anyone that packs meat, do you use those meat bags that breath or plastic bags. Don't think I'd want meat juice in the pack it kinda a pain to clean the pack.

I haven't put to much in the pack, seems stuff gets lost in there without having the inner bag to help keep the stuff separated.

Definitely be cool to get together sometime, I don't know much about camping but will figure that out lol.

I use cloth game bags. It allows the meat to breath and cool off. Once I get back to camp I put it in heavy plastic bags when I put it in the cooler with ice. I wouldn't carry it in plastic bags. That would not allow it to breath or cool off and could lead to some nasty side effects.

I got a little blood in the bottom of my pack but it cleaned off with soap and water.

Ok thanks, I'll have to get some of them game bags, I think Cabelas had some maybe I'll grab some next time I'm there.
