Here is my Ruger 10/11 all dressed up as a HK36C.

I've been considering a 10/22 for a while now, and a couple of months ago I got one for me and one for my son. Mine was a stainless Steel version with the polymer/grey camo stocks. After shooting it a couple time, I decided it needed a change of Clothes.

This is the rifle in it's HK36C disguise. I bought the kit from one of our members, added a Tactical scope, and it's ready to go.

I actually shot about 400 rounds through it about 2 weekends ago, but at the time it was with a reflex sight, and that worked out well. At 25 yards I can put 10 rounds in a 2-2.5" group.

At 50 yards, I tried a "Mad Minute" drill, with 3 10 round mags at a 6" "Shoot-n-See". Only the holes in the "Shoot-n-See" counted. I shot 26 of the 30 rounds (I'm not the fastest at changing magazines), and got 24 of the shot in the black.

Anyway, the rifle feels pretty good. The kit is very sturdy, and it actually adds quite a bit of weight. The original weight was just under 5lbs, the new weight is 7.3lbs. The Marauder kit includes both a flash hider and a mock suppressor tube. It looks best with the suppressor tube on, but it's just plain plastic, so I ordered the airsoft mock suppressor below, which will enhance the look. The folding stock still keeps the rifle legal at just under 27".

I also wanted to have a a few mags that looked like the transparent plastic mags from the real HK36. A $6 airsoft magazine, with a 10 round rotary mag epoxied on top does the job. I don't yet know how long it will last, but we'll see.

I'm now considering a bullpub setup for another 10/22. Probably a P90 :)

The Marauder kit sells for about $150-160. Midway has here:

To install the 10/22 you first need to remove it from it's furniture. That takes about 2 minutes. The most time consuming part is removing the iron sights from the rifle. The front must be punched out. Punching out the rear sight can be a pain, but if you have one of the folding kind, all you need to do is push out the pin that the blade hinges on. You don't need to remove the dove tailed base.

The marauder kit comes already assembled, so you'll have to disassemble it first, before dropping the 10/22 works in it. Once you have it all together, you're ready for the range.

As I had previously mentioned, I had a NCStar reflex sight which worked great, but I found that at 50 yards, even the smallest dot on that sight was bigger than the 6" bulls eye. So I was looking for some magnification, that's why I opted for a tactical scope with 2-7 zoom. I got the NcStar 2-7x32 rangefinder model, which I think will work just great on my setup. This scope can be had for about $75.00.

If you want to dress it up further, you can get any accessories you would get for the real rifle. The airsoft suppressor project will only cost about $25, and the clear magazine with dummy rounds, ended up costing less than a Promag marauder mag: $12 for the Ruger rotary magazine, and $6 for the G36 airsoft magazine

The only other thing I'm considering at the moment is a Magpul angled grip like this:

So here is the final version

Here is the final version of the Marauder.

I've reworked the magazines to look correct when inserted. It required that I cut the airsoft mag at a pretty steep angle. I then cut a plate out of ABS plastic and screwed the Ruger rotary magazine to it, and added some epoxy to secure it. Then the plate was glued onto the magazine. It works perfectly, and really looks realistic. The magazines were designed to interlock, but due to the thickness of the Ruger magazines, you can't really insert the mag into the rifle when 2 mags are interlocked.

Additionally, I also wanted a more realistic silencer then the tube provided with the Marauder. I got a P90 mock silencer from Evike Airsoft, then with a little bit of machine work, I was able to fit it. The original marauder silencer tube was turned down, and shortened a bit to fit it inside, and the front and rear silencer covers had to have a notch cut into them to allow the front sight post through. The whole works are secured with 4 grub screws. I think the results are quite nice.

The scope is a NC Star 2-7x32 illuminated Rangefinder Mil-Dot, and after close to 1000 rounds is still holding it's zero, so I'm quite pleased with it.

Last but not least I added a Magpul AFG fore grip. I've just purchased a folding vertical grip that can be locked in at 45°, so I'll give that a try to see which is better, but for now this is "THE" configuration.

So here are the pics.

Looks really cool, but I thought it was illegal to have pistol grip and a detachable mag in CA?

I live in CT, so I'm probably wrong... but I thought the exemption was just magazine capacity?
I went back and looked at the law. Under the assault rifle restrictions, it always refers to a "Centerfire rifle", which means that the .22 caliber rifles are exempt from all restrictions regarding features and magazine capacity. So at least we can have our evil black .22 assault rifles :D

The pistol grip + detachable magazine ban is in reference to centerfire rifles only.

That's not fair... I wish we had that in CT.

Looks like I'll just have to get some pre-ban lowers and 10/22s. :neener:

".22 caliber rifles are exempt from all restrictions regarding features and magazine capacity"

That would indeed be nice, but unfortunately, the 10 round magazine restriction is still in place. The only exceptions are tubular feed magazines, such as the ones found on lever action rifles.

Then again, I could be wrong (and I'm sure someone here will probably correct me), but large capacity magazines are prohibited from being sold, imported, lent, traded, etc. Personal ownership of such magazines is not specifically forbidden.

Well, you can own "rebuild kits"... What would be stopping someone from going out into the desert, assembling a bunch of 30-rounders, shooting for a couple hours, then disassembling them?

I know, It's actually funny to see all those "repair kits" at the trade shows. And they all have these stickers attached to them saying something like "assembling these parts may constitute a felony" or something to that effect. :D

I actually don't mind the 10 round mags. It regulates my shooting (somewhat). Even so I still go through 300+ rounds of .22 every time I go to the range.

Kinda like all those M2 kits and sear drilling jigs... You can own it, but you can't use it!
