for me, the best hunting auto, is my dads early reminton 1100 12 ga. just because it was my dads, and its a clean, and pretty gun.
hard to beat a beautiful family heirloom!
JMHO

I miss Dad.

my sister had my dads 1100, it had been sitting for over a decade, she was never gonna use it.
her hubby wanted a home defense gun, and i wanted them to have a decent home defense gun.
i offered her $500 cash, or a quality home defense gun in exchange.
i gave her a new mossberg 12ga 590 retrograde 20" 8 plus one.
i paid right at $600 shipped for it, new.
i like her gun, but i want dads 1100 more! i was happy with the swap, so were they.
they offered me cash with the gun, i refused.
i mostly shoot clays with it now, but i love it!
every time i pick it up, i think of dad!

this is quite the swap, i would way prefer a semiauto over a pump shotgun for home defense, but what do i know...my under the bed shotgun is just a lowly h&r 20ga, 20” single.

The pump is an economical and reliable option if a problem arises. It's easily cleared or jams and holds as much ammo as any other choice. But you know... I think I will be using whatever is closest to me if a self defense situation. Choose wisely and hope for the best :)

Another vote for a 1100. My pops had one with a 18.5 in barrel for home defense. First time I shot it the neighbor came out and asked if it was full auto. Held 8 rounds w extended tube. Only heard 3 shots. Looked down thinking it jammed. Nope it was empty. Wish he would have held on to it.

I own an old 1975 1100, an 1187, a Beretta 391 and a Beretta A400 Xplor Unico which is a 3.5" chamber gun, also just bought a 1301 comp. I grew up shooting the 1975 1100 which has a million rounds on it fixed choke modified barrel. The Beretta guns are the ones I like better and the A400 Unico is my favorite. I shoot trap with it occasionally as I have a great over under for that. If you plan to hunt water fowl you will need the 3.5 chamber for some Non Toxic shot shells.

If you're asking about the most versatile 12 gauge, semiauto shotgun, my vote goes to the Benelli Super Black Eagle II

I agree completely. I have several nice shotguns, including two of my favorites (a Merkel twenty gauge double and a Browning Double Auto), but for ultimate versatility, my vote also goes to the Benelli Super Black Eagle II. Relatively light-weight for upland duties but heavy enough for waterfowl hunting; chambered in 3 1/2",12 gauge with multiple chokes, this gun will do most anything reliably well.
