Almost thought I was in yet another bad situation last night

Gamestalker, thanks for the info re your kidnapping. Glad you came through it and also glad you helped send the cretins to the slam.

polite suggestion

I'd like to continue to hear your postings on this forum, so I would politely suggest maybe you should see if you can get a surplus Bradley fighting vehicle to take your walks in if you are going down this road again. It sounds like you have escaped the grim reaper at least 3 or 4 times that you have shared with us, but someday your luck is going to run out.

Zorro45, I only wish it's been only 3 or 4, but in truth, it's pushing 20 potentially deadly encounters. Most know me to be a bit weary, maybe even paranoid, but then again, they haven't walked in my shoes.

And no, I'm not involved in law enforcement.

So the mob then I assume? JK of course. Boy man, that is a fishy one. You really couldn't make out anything from their shouting? Not a "Don't come round here no more." or a "Stay away from our property!"? Nothing that gives you a clue as to their reason for being upset?

It sounds like you have had some really bad experiences. Any particular set of circumstances that lead you into these situations, or just bad luck?

Personally, I've only had a few bad encounters. One involved an angry home owner trying to bluff me away from his property while I was working. He had a shotgun, I had a smile and some air photos. I talked my way out of it, but later had to testify as my employer decided to press charges. We won, as he was interfering with my duties as a public servant.

Is it the place you live? I mean do you just happen to have a lot of bad eggs around? I live in a small rural town, and hike/walk all the time also, but not in the SW. I've only ever drawn my gun once due to what I think was a mountain lion, but the light was fading so I couldn't see very well. I walked a 1/4 mile backwards with an FNP45 in my hand to get to my vehicle.

I'll PM you a bit later. I have a few questions that aren't really public forum discussion topics.

". . . I could still hear this lady yelling something, then I heard a vehicle start up. So now I'm probably 1/2 mile from that property when I hear the same vehicle coming up the road, nothing unusual, just driving along normal. . . ."

The yelling says it's not normal. Step out of the light and let them go by without seeing you. Stay out of the light until you're sure they're gone. Call someone if you have cell coverage to relate what's happening.

I think you really should start doing some things differently before your luck runs out.

It's really a bit of a catch 2+2 in this regard. As some of you are aware, I have literally experienced countless deadly incidents in my life time. Several of these incidents have been triggered by me either calling the police to report a crime, or by testifying in court that I witnessed such and such crime.

Calling the sheriff would be fine if, what I had to say could be in any way substantiated, and it can't it's just my account. And if by chance they are involved in drugs or other illegal activity, they may get angry and then focus their attention on getting retribution, or just because I called the cops.

Back in 1980 Yuma, Az. I caught these two U.S. Marines who were drunk, and breaking into cars, mine was one of the cars burglarized. When the cops got there, they caught them with grocery bags full of stereo's, wallets, and a host of other stolen property, including a couple of handguns. They had broken into something like 40 -50 cars in my apartment complex. Long story short, I was asked to testify by the prosecutor, and agreed to do so. Following the initial hearing the two criminals stopped me on the steps of the courthouse and threatened me, stating that if I followed through with giving my testimony, they would absolutely kill me. After all, considering they were military, they were looking at dishonorable discharge, and definitely some prison time, probably a bit of both civilian and military prison.

So I told them that considering they were already facing a stiff sentence, that threatening me was the worst possible thing they could have done. I went to the prosecutor and told him about the threat, but he didn't think it was anything to be concerned about. A week later they made the first of two attempts to blow me up in my car, the second attempt was exactly a week later. Fortunately for me, both bombs failed to burst the gas tank, which was where they had placed them.

Those two men were no doubt very dangerous, deadly would be a more accurate description I think. BATF got involved, I guess because it concerned explosives stolen from the base? They ended up getting 20 yrs. in Leavenworth.

Just doing my job, I had someone's car towed from the business lot, as instructed by my boss, I was the store mgr.. These two men came in asking who had the car towed, I said I did, and reiterated that I had left at least 3 warnings on the windshield to not park in this lot. Long story short, I was kidnapped, violently assaulted, and they both went to prison.

You did the right things in those situations, but you were met with evil for it. I am going to pm you some advice.

I think you're in violation of the law here… the law of averages, at any rate.

One would think that would trigger someone to make drastic change(s) in their lives so that ceases.

On the original topic,
I had something very similar happen to me today.
I was on a walk through the neighborhood with a friend, talking and chatting, walking slow enjoying the weather.
We were almost home and had a guy pull up in a mustang that I vaguely remember being parked in front of one of the houses we had walked past, and started freaking out on us, wanting to know why we were so "interested in his house". I told him we were out on a walk and didn't have any interest at all in his house. He apparently wasn't satisfied with the truth and started accusing us of scoping his house or something.
At that point my friend was pretty heated and I decided that it was best to just move on. I grabbed my friends arm and kind of turned him away and started walking away at a calm pace, paying attention to what the guy was doing, one hand on my cellphone and the other close to my CCW. He apparently didn't want to pursue the matter past making some noise, and we went our separate ways.

I can't say what the intentions were in the OP, but in my case it sounded like the guy was just being paranoid and aggressive. I knew I had done nothing wrong and had no reason not to just walk away in a vigilant manner. In the OP's case, If threats are made I'd definitely have called the police and reported it.

Call the Cops!

You obviously know how to protect yourself, but next time it might be somebody else, somebody who does not.

Do your neighborhood a favor and inform the police. Incoherent and paranoid behavior as you described is indicative of drug usage. Call the police.

Update!

Well, last night I went for another walk, and yes I walked by this house again, which is unavoidable when walking that direction down the dirt road. Anyway, same identical circumstances, except this time when the truck did a U turn up the way, I was in a spot where I was able to slip off the road, so I hid behind the heavy brush, turned my head lamp off, and waited. The truck came back and slowed down as it was passing by, stopped about 50 -75 yds. from me, then did another U turn and came back by slowly, stopping now and then for a couple hundred yards, then sped off. Just when I thought everything was over, I saw it do another U turn, turned the engine and head lights off, and then sat there on the side of the road for about 10 minutes. Not wanting to give my position away, I didn't do anything, I just waited in the dark. Then after that 10 minute or so wait, it started back up, turned the lights on and head back toward me and their house, stopping and going again, obviously looking for me. Eventually they went back to their house, I waited a few minutes and then continued on my way.

I tried to call the sheriff, but cell service out here in the sticks is unreliable at best, so I was unable to report it at that time. So once I got home, I called them, and they said since nothing really happened, other than driving back and forth, they didn't think they needed to talk to these folks, and the dispatch operator even said I might be a little bit overly paranoid, cause cars drive by people all the time, and there is nothing illegal about driving down the road.

No offense to anyone, but that is one of the problems with the sw semi-remote areas. About half the people that live in the middle of nowhere are nice and about half live in rat holes are often half nuts with some anti-social issues. Never found that to be the case in other places I have lived. I would not go there. They don't want you around. Might keep walking on the road, but no good reason to try to be their buddy.

Perhaps you live in a tougher neighborhood than I but I would put the percentage of ne'er do wells far lower. Either that or we have vastly different definitions of "semi-rural."

Thanks for the definition buntline, I'm not very good with some terminologies.

But yes, these folks just may be a little bit on the shady side, or maybe a bit psychotic?

One thing I have learned over the years, is when the proverbial feces hits the fan, two initial responses are automatically induced.

1. I call on the name of my savior, which has never failed me.

2. I prepare to use lethal force, so as to try and never be caught off guard.

This is getting ridiculous though, in that I'm growing tired of constantly facing off with the enemy.

A few weeks ago I walked into my local Walmart, and nearly walked right into a deadly shoot out. A man came in, and then some how managed to walk out the front door with a loaded rifle he stole from the sporting goods dept.. He then got into a shoot out with LE, car jacked someone at gun point in the parking lot, and went on a deadly crime spree involving armed robbery, home invasion, and started a church on fire before LE ended things by running him over with their car. I thank God I missed the incident by just a few minutes that morning.

Good lord, man! Adding that to the previous "20 potentially deadly encounters" and I'm seriously thinking that I don't want to move down to SW Arizona ... As Aragon suggested, perhaps it's time to make some drastic changes in your life (or at least your daily habits and the places you visit). I didn't have that much drama in two OIF tours ...

Dispatch is wrong. From what you said something is up/odd with these folks. How long have you or they lived in this neighborhood?

But yes, these folks just may be a little bit on the shady side, or maybe a bit psychotic?

O.K.,
This is getting a little out of proportion. You are walking down a secluded road in a place that a is a little outside the norm for daily strolls. I'm sure who ever lives in that house is not quite use to seeing people on their daily walks stroll by on what has been described as a secluded area away from any other houses. That is something that would raise my eyebrow if I lived off the beaten path and suddenly saw someone strolling down the road near dusk. Their response is a little overblown. But none the less, they may have recently dealt with theft or other problems of their own.

The absolute first response to this should to be to announce yourself and your intentions. Even if it requires a daytime visit to the location. This last encounter has only elevated any paranoia they had to begin with.
To do this again without at least leaving a note for these people or something is just begging for an un-needed altercation. If you have a legitimate cause for concern of safety, then the last thing you need to do is re-enter that environment, ready to defend yourself.

For all you know, they are typing on a parallel forum, about how some fella keeps stalking their house at night and may be wacked out on some kinda drug.

Might I suggest that when the time comes to prepare to use deadly force, one has already been "caught off guard".

This is getting ridiculous though,...
So it seems.

...in that I'm growing tired of constantly facing off with the enemy.
"Constantly facing off with the enemy"?

Even with Phoenix being Chicago-on-the-Mojave, I find it rather interesting that I can't find any news coverage of this incident, or anything even remotely resembling it. Where did this occur?
