Background:

(1) Military;
(2) State of legal residence -- Texas;
(3) State of physical residence ("Domicile") -- Virginia;
(4) Location of duty station per official orders -- Maryland;
(5) Wish to sell a handgun;
(6) Wish to buy a handgun.

Here are my questions:

(a) Can I sell a handgun (e.g., to a gun shop) in Virginia or Maryland, or must I transact the sale in Texas?

(b) I think I read somewhere that, as an active-duty soldier, I could purchase handguns either in Texas or Maryland. Does that jibe with what you guys know?

If you have a Texas DL you can purchase in Texas. If you are under current orders in Maryland, you can purchase in Maryland also, so you'll need a copy of your orders. (I've done it while under orders in VA).

I don't know about selling a handgun, but as long as the transfer is handled via a FFL holder I am sure you would be fine.

From the federal perspective you may purchase a handgun Texas (assuming you have ID that TX will accept) and Maryland (since under fed law you are a resident of the state to which you are assigned). You must meet all TX and/or MD state requirements though.

Since you are not assigned to a duty station in VA, you may not buy a handgun in VA (even though you live there), unless you choose to get a VA DL/ID. Under VA law you need two documents showing showing the same address, one of which must be a VA DL/ID at least 30 days old. The other can be a lease, car registration, passport, utility bill, etc, but must have the same address.

Generally (and I do stress the word generally!), you may sell a handgun to an FFL dealer in any state, if you legally own and possess it in the state in question. There may be (and proabably are) some exceptions state to state however.

Please note that I am not a lawyer, so exercise of due dilligence on your part is required.
