Alright rifle country, lets see some uncommon rifles

Some extremely interesting rifles posted so far! If any of you ever want to part with then you know how to find me ;)

I only barely have the jest of it. One trigger is a very heavy pull and sets the hammer at a tipping point and the other trigger will let the trigger fly on a breath. It took both triggers being set to set the rifle up for a hair trigger. Old school high performance trigger but hugely effective. BTW, that is the original scope.

Why did that single barrel bolt action have two triggers?

It's called a Double Set Trigger. The trigger has a hammer which strikes the sear to release the firing pin. The front trigger is fairly heavy and it cocks the hammer. Once cocked, the rear trigger sets the hammer off at the lightest touch. If not cocked by the front trigger, the rear trigger will cock and release the hammer by itself, although with a much heavier pull. It's similar in concept to the single action / double action modes of a double action revolver.

DSTs are usually found on European rifles. They are in the proud Germanic tradition of never settling for a simple mechanism when you can design a more complex mechanism that will do the job just as well.

Personally, I would prefer a good Timney. Too much fiddling around when you should be shooting for my taste. However, they just seem right on certain rifles, such as the Mannlicher.

Good morning
The only unusual item I have down here I had to assemble from scraps and bits that have accumulated over the 27 years we have been here.
Matchlock is a caliber 70 smothbore, 48 inch barrel and weights at 9 pounds.
Once you have hefted one to ignite it you understand real fast why soilders used a fork out front to steady these long barrels while waiting for advancing enemies to get within firing range.
First photo is the first ignition on our 4th of July, 2013. Stock was not finished but that minor detail was secondary to the importance of the Day ! So far I use 40 grains 3F with a paper wad. Gives a very satisfying Cha-Booom as the lever is raised and the slowmatch enters the pan.
Second photo is where the matchlock is displayed in the living room. Few people ever see it as it blends in well with the Buffs.

Howdy Float Pilot
Quad double flinter
Could you please tell us a little more about this very handsome and unique flinter.
I have a double flinter 20 bore in storage I shoot crows with.. but a 4 barrel is very scarse .

These are reasonable uncommon:

Nicely engraved, you can still see a little case hardening but mostly faded, not a Martini action, made in Belgium in cal. 380 Long Centerfire:

A pretty plain Martini Henry 1/2 action size in 360 No. 5:

This one is full stocked in .300 Sherwood:

An 1891 Argentine Mauser, not an uncommon gun but sporterized by Williams back in the 1950's:

And a modern, actually pretty available in Europe but you don't see that many of them in the US. HK SLB2000k in 30-06:

How about the Calico, it is uncommon because the helical magazine. Note there is a rifle version, but this picture shows how it works.

Greetings Browningguy
That 1891 Mauser would be a very nice rifle to have. Those manlicher stocks reall dress up a common military shoulder weapon.

Do your research before shooting your AG42b. Much like a garand they must be fed ammunition using powders of the appropriate burn rate.

Strange fact: the ag42 required ammunition to be lightly oiled to ensure reliable function. (Rem oil works great)
I do not understand what you have stated. I had a Hakim which is Egyptian version and they are direct gas impingement like an AR in fact better. powder burning rate is critical with an operating rod which is absent on any DI
