Alright folks, so here is my situation. I am planning on getting a new rifle soon and for a while I had been sold on getting an AR-15 due to previous experiences with my M-16 in the Marines. I'm wondering though, if there might be something better for me out there (being a lefty) that I haven't thought of yet. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this... my working price range right now is between $1500-2000 (including optics and accessories).

Jimmy,
There are a few companies that make Left handed AR-15's. DPMS has a left handed model. Not just an AR with a deflector, but a true Left Handed AR upper. If I remember correctly Bushmaster and Rock River do too. Do an internet search for "Left Hand AR-15.
You might want to think about and AR-10 too. I like the AR platform and it's versatility over many of the others. Let's see what gets recommended for us lefties!

Already considered several AR builds, and if I do go that route I'm considering a "frankenAR" with either a Noveske or LMT upper and LMT or BCM internals. I'd like to think that I can do a little better than DPMS or Stag... As I stated, I'm looking to see what might be a possible alternative platform as compared to an AR.

Well, there are ambi guns like the SCAR and ACR, but that's out the top end of your price range. I would not discount Stag right off, they make good stuff. They are no LMT or Noveske, but they are well worth their price.

Now I have been toying around with waiting and getting a SCAR... a friend of mine has one and I've enjoyed shooting it immensely. It's certainly not off the table yet... I'm still out on the ACR, I haven't seen one yet.

Since you're talking about a FrankenAR I'd definitely look at the left handed Stag stripped upper and bcg. (I'm assuming they sell them separately - otherwise you'd be stuck having to buy their complete upper.) Stag's been doing the lefty longer than anyone and know it better. Can't really beat them and the price is right. Accuracy is always good with Stag. You may have to stake the carrier keys and I'm not sure about M4 feed ramps.

As far as an alternative to the AR, I can't think of anything better within reason.
