It has been a while since I have gotten word of a new, really interesting rifle design. Off the top of my head the virtually non-existent RFB is the only one that I can think of...and it has yet to hit full production as of yet. Are there any recent radical designs (whether built or concept) that you would like to share?

This can include anything that is classified as a rifle, be it for sporting, target, plinking, competition/benchrest, any type of action, caliber, cartridge, length, appearance...anything...I am an equal opportunity gun nut. :)

Good question; I'd like to see more new(ish) ideas come about, especially for autoloaders. The RFB is the last I've seen as well. We are at a point were it's all been done and streamlined...simplicity is king.

I well not really a new design but I find the new LARGE shank AR15 uppers to be an interesting development.

Getting ar10 performance from an ar15 is quite a big deal if you ask me. I'm definitely saving my money for a WSSM or 300OSM upper

I wouldn't go that far...Charles H. Duell, the Commissioner of the U.S. patent office said "Everything that can be invented has been invented." [with regards to all inventions] in 1899...he was wrong; but needless to say, there seems to be a dry spell right now, at least from whatI have seen lately, but perhaps I missed the latest super-mega-blaster-lasergun. :D

I agree, what is the 300OSM...a new short mag? The only detractor from such a platform would be the uncertainty of the super-shorts for the long run...perhaps they will fare better trying to squeeze a bit more performance out of the AR-15. :)

300 Olympic Short Magnum. Necked up WSSM. Single stacks in existing mags. Essentially .308 Win performance. Olympic has been teasing us with it for years. Much better than the shortened .284 case that the 30 AR uses IMO.

Interesting, never heard of it...sounds nice, is there any 6.5mm short mags that are comparable to a .260Rem.? That would be ideal IMO...not that a .30 is bad in any way. :)

6.5 gets into COL vs magazine length issues with bullets that make the 6.5 bullet diameter do it's thing. But there is a few variations out there

Depressing, the 6.5mm is an amazingly versatile caliber. :)

Most significant advancements are occuring on the airsoft front right now.
No kidding...did you see the new ultra-mega-super-uber blaster? It looks like a PSG-1. :D

DSR-1 Bullpup and the Walther WA-2000 are not new, but are so expensive that they are kinda rarely seen. Those designs have always intrigued me, very different and specificly made to that rifle. I really like the Nemesis Mini Windrunner, an innovative approach to a takedown rifle.

I must have been under a rock somewhere. This sounds interesting. Got a link for it?

Agreed, I actually considered a DSR-1, but decided upon the DTA-SRS, another rifle that fits in the same category. I also considered the Mini Windrunner, but I couldn't turn my back on the bullpup goodness. :D

Doc, that is a cool little rifle. :neener: That should give the Rohrbaugh some trouble if it operates as advertised. :)

Don't forget about the Heckler & Koch G11K2 Caseless Assault Rifle, it may have been made in 2006? But caseless ammunition?! That is where the future is at, the G11 was WAY ahead of its time in ammunition design! Again not "new" 2006ish, but the Polish 7.62mm Bor bullpup rifle as a different design that is pretty sexy. I guess Maverick223 obsession with bullpups seems to be the wave of the future!

This weekend I was playing with one of my AR's - getting a deer load ready. .257" 120gr Nosler Partition a little over 2900fps.

Krochus is 100% right.

PandaBearBG, the G11 is a little on the old side, born in 1988...but still no production (at least that I am aware of) so I guess that counts. The Bor is pretty neat rifle, and is likely a bit newer as I have never heard of it.

I guess Maverick223 obsession with bullpups seems to be the wave of the future!
Not obsessed...just dedicated, I am seeking help for the problem, but the doc. says it will take time. He prescribed pills for my problem...match grade 208gr. pills...I'm in bad shape. :D
