I've been using H/IMR 4895 for my rifle reloading (6.5 thru 8mm with 140-150gr bullets) and am looking for a good, all-round alternate powder. I currently have 3031 ... 4064 ... Benchmark. Given my situation, what would YOU pick?

I agree.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

But Varget is a pretty versatile powder too.

It's often getting harder to find. I have about 16# right now ... but am getting ready for my 2013 reloading season ... just rather have is in my larder than not. I've always had good luck with 4895 ... but you know how things have been the last 4 years. (got a ton of primers and bullets too:D)

Varget is very versatile. Hard to beat IMR/H4895/AA2495 for all around powders.

I think you can load 90% (maybe more) of all rifle cartridges with IMR 4895 and IMR 4350.

You will find that IMR 4350 does real well with 6.5's.

Alliant Rel15 and Rel19 are pretty versatile powders and sometimes easier to find than Hodgdon/IMR stuff. They have a Rel17 as well but I I haven't figured where it fits in.

Blackrock, Re-17 can be used where you'd use IMR-4350. It's supposed to give added velocity.

This is my go-to powder ( H4895)

I sourced about 200#'s of it online today if I wanted it- and about 60#'s of it locally yesterday while browsing for some mags.

I'd say look a little harder, friend.
