Somehow over the years I've ended up putting those alumina flip up caps on nearly all my Leupold scopes.

I've got another one on the way and I started thinking about caps and realized I don't really want to pay for another set of those, and they'd be wonky on my new adjustable objective scope. Any suggestions for an alternative?

I don't know if anybody makes them but I always thought something that just slid on the front and back that had some kind of little loop to go around the scope tube would be nice -- so it doesn't get lost lol

Ya know I'd never heard of Monstrum til the other day I was looking for picatinny rings on Amazon and was bombarded with them.

Ya, they're kind of in the UTG/Leapers tier for most of their stuff. I'm going to try a set of their scope covers when I get my warranty replacement from Bushnell, worst case scenario I end up buying Butler Creek ones to replace them if I really don't like them and haven't invested much in either set.

They look like they're at least worth a try. I'm kinda curious about them now. I'm not sure how well they'd work on this AO scope I'm getting but this new one does use the standard eyepiece and 40mm objective so I could move my luminas off another one and try the Monstrums on one of my regular Leupys.

Some years back my "good" rifle at the time had the covers that went on both ends with the elastic cords between them. I finished up at the range packed up my gear and when I went to clean my gun realized I'd left the covers at the range. I was all mad that I had to order a new one. When I went back two weeks later I did the exact same darn thing. Ever since then I've been using the flip ups.

They can be kinda wonky at times but at least I don't lose them.

I have 2 VX-2s with A/O and both have a stationary section of tube forward of the A/O ring that keeps the caps from spinning. Butler Creeks are cheap but work fine till they break. I position them a bit differently so they both flip to the right.

I can actuate the objective with my support thumb and the occular with my right thumb. Front is about 90 degrees, rear about 45 degrees (almost upside down). I keep a little more vision around the scope that way as I bring the scope into alignment.

Buy once, cry once.......One of the magnets came loose and got lost on one of my Leupold caps. Called customer service for a new magnet, new cap arrived by mail within one week

I've used their warranty for scopes before and they've always taken great care of me but I never though about the caps! A couple of my older ones don't like to stay closed anymore I should give them a call!

A handful of mfg-specific caps like the Leupold are good. AFAIK (from using and picking up a lot of them on ranges and courses) all the plastic, Butler creek and the like, are awful.

The top end general solution is ADLAND. Great, great caps in every way. Sized right, rigid, bolt on, fold flat. http://www.aadmount.com/Caps/Caps.html

Ooooh I have a set of those on my Nighforce SHV. They were expensive but darn good.

The Butler Creek ones work well but aren’t particularly rugged. Mine lasted for years until I swapped rifles with my hunting buddy. He broke them within five minutes

Years ago we had these nice binoculars that had kinda heavy plastic and rubber caps that just hung down with a little cable when you weren't using them. I always thought something like that could be good for scopes. They'd be kinda dorky I suppose and would probably snag on something if you had them off while going through heavy brush but they seemed like a good idea.

I quit using them. Missed a nice buck a few years ago when I noticed I didn't open the front one and when I flipped it up, he spooked before I could shoot. Rather I keep some disposable eye glasses alcohol wipes in my pocket when I hunt and they work just fine, even in rain and snow.
